Yes I do like the drinking culture.

Southeastern Wisconsin has lots of areas with a wide socioeconomic spectrum, which you think would be a healthy thing to expose kids to as they grow up, but in practice it just breeds insularity and contempt and drives everyone a little bit insane. In my little NW-suburban school district, we certainly had poor people, but not the abject poverty of rural Wisconsin, and we had families who were pretty well-off, but not McMansion material and definitely not lakeshore estate people. I think I probably would have been a better leftist and sooner had I not lived around all that at the turn of the millennium.

My sophomore year of high school, the girl who sat next to me in French III was a freshman, which was unusual, because usually you can only test into second-level foreign languages as a freshman. She was easily the best student in the class, though my French was pretty good back then if I do say so myself. Our teacher seemed oddly glad that we shared a table, probably wanted to set us up. Then one day without warning she was gone. A couple days later, I asked where she went. Her parents sent her to a boarding school in Switzerland. Okay, I guess that's just a thing that happens all the time, sure, cool. A bientot.

That’s kind of an oddity for Wisconsin though. Most of it I don’t even want to think about

I think that's pretty common in Paul Ryan's old district, say from Janesville to Racine/Kenosha. Waukesha County is pretty firmly its own little corner of the world, all eight-lane highways to nowhere dotted by boat salesmen who are mad at Colin Kaepernick.

I don't really know Wisconsin past Madison and Milwaukee and don't want to. I like Madison a lot too.

I feel like La Crosse would be pretty in the summer, but every time I've been there there was a foot of snow on the ground and it was always overcast and grim.

Solid point.. best fresh water source in the country. In 20 years, that could be huge

That's the rub, it's like Saudis fleeing Saudi Arabia to the US..then fighting to make the US more like Saudi Arabia .. the Dems are destroying states. The Dem voters can't flee to red States and vote blue.

the most fresh water rich state in the country, possibly on the planet. tho I think Baikal alone is equal in volume to all 5 Great Lakes combined. If Chiner ever invades Russia it's making a bee-line for Lake Baikal.

Trust the process? Hopefully Illinois does better than a perennially injured center and a point guard who
can't shoot outside the paint.

Illinois expats = domesticated Mexicans. When's Trump gonna build a wall around Illinois to keep Illini from contaminating the rest of the states.

I have two cousins who moved their families to Arizona in the last five years, and a third who is going to retire there in 2022 once his private sector pension kicks in. A fourth is contemplating the SC coast once her kids graduate high school, maybe Charleston, maybe Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach.

I moved to NC in 2019. I know of two others who moved here (one is a board member who may not post here any more), and a third who is thinking about it because he has built a large military base component to his construction business and you can't shake a stick along I-95 without hitting a base.

It reminds me of my polack relatives who moved to fox lake in the 70s for cheap land

There is a reason its cheap.

I haven't heard anyone moving to any cultural meccas. I guess if you were living a perfectly manicured suburban lifestyle, never taking advantages of what the city offers, every soulless location is fungible. Enjoy your mild winter.

also, do we really consider retirees moving "fleeing" the state

Retirees have been moving to warm weather locations since Ponce de Leon searched for the fountain of youth. I wonder if they take that into consideration with an aging population.

Moving to a place like Arizona with kids is dooming them to failure, but you have a pool so its all good

Stop jerking off the city. It’s about the property taxes, not much else.

Everyone loves the most segregated metropolitan area in the country.

I live in the suburbs where the taxes and cost of living is much lower, and I can enjoy all the city has to offer with a relatively short train or car ride.

I’ve been told the Carolinas are beautiful, but those Atlantic hurricanes are a no go for me.

Even tho they don’t happen so often that far north of FL.
