I moved to NC in 2019. I know of two others who moved here (one is a board member who may not post here any more), and a third who is thinking about it because he has built a large military base component to his construction business and you can't shake a stick along I-95 without hitting a base.

He smells funny.

indeed, can confirm

I smell like biscuits and beer. Moving to North Carolina 5 years ago was the best decision I ever made for myself and my family. Raleigh area has great schools, tremendous job opportunities in tech and bio pharma industries, clean air, low taxes, moderate cost of living, plenty of outdoor activities, and excellent weekend trip options within a 4 hour radius. Ocean, mountains, historical sites, Charelston, DC, Asheville, etc... 4 hour radius from Chicago you are in the middle of a corn field or a lake. Or with heavy traffic 50 miles from where you started. Fuck that.

There is a reason its cheap.

I haven't heard anyone moving to any cultural meccas. I guess if you were living a perfectly manicured suburban lifestyle, never taking advantages of what the city offers, every soulless location is fungible. Enjoy your mild winter.

Stop jerking off the city. It’s about the property taxes, not much else.

Everyone loves the most segregated metropolitan area in the country.

I hate the high purchase prices much more than the property taxes. I'll look at some of these home shows my wife watches and they show a house in Nashville or Atlanta. When asked to guess the price I always think something like 750K or 1+ million and the listed price is 350K.

We have issues, no doubt. Some are being addressed. Others, like the pension crises, are only being stabilized until we reach a cliff.

You’re also speaking from a point of privilege compared to MANY other people in the state who are barely getting by, or getting foreclosed because they can’t afford the taxes.

It is an exodus.

So what do you folks think is the answer to keep or attract people to stay in or move to a state? I'm particularly interested in what the liberal or Democrat people on this board think. :| :|

It's largely an African American migration. There are still cranes building towers to cover the living of the corporate employees who continue to relocate into downtown chicago. The places in this city with negative growth is the west side and to a lesser extent the south side, although the further south you go, their are population increases.

Do not live south of 80 and/or west of 47.

You are sort of wrong about this.

If you viewed IL as a state instead of Chicago as a state you would maybe see clearer.

yes, I was wrong.

I was remembering what I read about Chicago not Illinois

I don't really know Wisconsin past Madison and Milwaukee and don't want to. I like Madison a lot too.

Because he beat the Packers twice!

That 2012 playoff game was rough. Felt like he ran for 500 yards

Most of Texas is absolutely awful. And I have visited there quite often.

Edit: Florida is awful too unless you can afford to live near the coast. Even then it's miserable during "season" - which is the only time you'd want to be there.

I guess they must suck if so MANY people are moving to these places.

As has been explained MANY times; they have different priorities. They'd prefer to live in a bland culture-less wasteland to save a buck. It's a free country so good for them for doing what they want.

Florida is definitely culture-less. Texas has culture but it's mostly based on Guns, BBQ and a hatred for all things not Texas.

You could live there for the next 30 years and you'll still be considered a Yankee (ie inferior).
