DFW Metroplex is as described....a bunch of clustered Schaumburg's.

Still....there is local flavor if you look for it. I spent a lot of time in Plano and I'd strongly consider moving there. It's all about where I can find work while cutting down on taxes.

the locals I worked with and met in the DFW were very cool. Oddly enough, transplanted Texans in the Midwest I've met fit all stereotypes....odd.

Honestly Zippy, I’ve worked with plenty of people from Texas.

MANY (not all) have a confidence about them which can seem unearned, but that doesn’t bother me.

I have met a few Texans who are all about that Texas heritage, and yes it is very fucking off putting/weird.

To me tho, it’s very similar to big city residents who can’t stop stroking off to where they live.

There's no superiority. I plan to leave IL in the next 2-3 years for other reasons than taxes. But I'll definitely miss it and probably make a return. Where I choose to move is not everyone's cup of tea so if it's shit on by board posters then so be it. Every place has it's problems. I won't piss and moan people that people are being mean.

Illinois is great and Chicago is the best city in the world but I would choose to live in Southern Africa before I go back for anything more than an extended visit or short contract.

I was in the Plano area a couple or times when we played the Mickey Mantle World Series in that area. Nice people and they welcomedmy team and I nicely. Great barbeque and steak there.

Moved to Colorado 3 years ago being retired and having properties here nearest big city to me is Delta. Make a right on to the highway and the next stop light is 30 miles away Property Taxes were the gating reason. Lived in Summit Taxes $4800 2 acres in Colorado $700 no brainer. Less stressful and just gorgeous scenery

No, because I am in Chicago probably 5 times every two months to visit my dad, who is in his late 80s. What I do miss a bit are urban areas, but I get downtown about once every six weeks and I am focusing weekend getaways on bigger cities every couple of months. Raleigh and Durham have downtowns, but they are pretty small. Most of "urban non-ghetto" Raleigh reminds me of Skokie Blvd and Cicero Ave from Montrose to Dempster.

Raleigh is by far my least favorite of the four cities (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary) but I work in SW Raleigh so I am there more than I should be. If that's all that was there, I would have moved elsewhere, maybe Western SC. Chapel Hill is a great college town, Durham has really invested in revitalization and gentrification (it was kind of a shithole in the 70s despite Duke, and Cary is new and is much more suburban. I'm also much closer to the country, which I enjoy. Last Friday, it got up to 68 degrees and there wasn't much going on at work, so I drove the slightly more than two hours to the ocean.

North Carolina is strange in that it has all these medium-sized cities all somewhat evenly distributed, or at least it seems strange to me being used to how Illinois basically falls off a cliff past Chicago. Like, Greensboro, what is Greensboro, why is Greensboro? How many just-under-a-million, Great Place To Raise A Family* cities does a state need?
