Idk why there's this deification of anyone who has made the NBA. Dickey Simpkins made the NBA because he's tall and somewhat athletic. That doesn't automatically make him superior to everyone who's not in the NBA at everything in basketball. That's a bit fantastical.

Simpkins was almost certainly better at basketball than anyone you ever met.

You guys are too zero sum about this. If I'm better than you at dribbling it doesn't mean I'm better than you at basketball. You can be eclipsed by someone in one particular skill set but still maintain overall basketball superiority over him. Dickey Simpkins is better than anyone I've met, yes, but he's not a better three point shooter than some, not a better passer, etc.

Anyone else remember when North challenged Zorich to a foot race?

What I don’t think you realize is he was better at all those things then you think. He could shoot. He was an incredible passer in person. He was an absolutely phenomenal basketball player and I played against him in his retirement when he was relaxing.

Yeah, most professional bums are far better than most of us.

Most?

Depends. Simpkins is probably better than FF at putting the ball in the hoop but that doesn't mean he's superior at everything you have to do on the court. I would have never made the NBA due to my height and lack of above average athleticism, but I know I have excellent court vision, even better than NBA players like Simpkins.

You may be a more skilled passer but i am positive you don’t have better court vision than Dickey Simpkins.

Depends what you mean. Not trying to brag here again because I'm basically a midget but I can find anyone on the court at any time from any angle, looking and not looking. I threw an alley oop to someone your size with my back to him in the middle of a game simply because, like all difficult passes, I take snap shots of where people are and where they're going and then use my eyes or misdirection to create passing angles which I then exploit. It's all about using the defense's stance (they're not facing the basket) against them. I obviously watched a lot of good PGs play and the only ones where I threw up my hands and said there's no effing way I can do that were Kidd (on like 40 percent of his stuff) and Jason Williams.

Again I don't think it's a stretch for the average person to have as good or better skills than professionals in certain areas. You could never teach me how to penetrate against elite defenses and finish at the rim because I don't have the physical assets to do anything with that teaching. However leveraging space and angles as well as threading needles with passes is not dependent on physical characteristics.

High school braggadocio never comes off that well. Did you lead the conference in assists? If not, fuck outta here with your space leveraging.

This exactly. I never played against a guy that was in the NBA. But a few years ago a guy moved to our area who played professionally in Europe. Dude was like 35 I think when he moved here. He was phenomenal. A group of us played in the mornings before work and he would come occasionally. I have no understanding why he did. He was so far advanced than any of us. It was like a high school senior playing with 3rd graders.

I played against Dickey 3-4 times at Lifetime Fitness and he always played outside the paint. It seemed like a self imposed rule to try to make it fair but it never worked. His team won every time easily.

It is the point. I think many people on this board are better free throw shooters than Shaq. RFDC and FF think that's tantamount to saying they're better than Shaq at basketball.

I don't think you are saying you are better than Shaq or Simpkins. I just think it is a huge reach on claiming that you have better court vision than a guy who played in the NBA. I have no doubt you are wrong. And I don't think picking Shaq shooting free throws as a good comparison. That is pretty much an exception as he was so very bad at those. I don't think Simpkins court vision was on the level of Shaqs awful free throw ability

Your biggest problem here is confusing court vision and passing with FT shooting. I’m 100% certain Dickey Simpkins had better court vision than you. It’s possible you were a better FT shooter in an empty gym without an NBA crowd affecting your shot

Court vision cannot be assigned a number. It's just something that either you're better at then dickey simpkins or you're not.

That doesn't mean that Vegan is wrong. I'm sure there are a bunch of people who never made the NBA or even college who would take all of his money in a shooting competition and who can handle the ball far better than he could. Making the NBA doesn't mean that you're elite or even average at everything. That shouldn't be too hard to understand.

I think making the nba does mean you're elite. Of course not every player is elite at every single aspect of the game. That's a silly argument to make.

But we all universally agree that the worst professional team would crush the best college team every time that comes up right?

This whole argument is silly. Let's get back to blaming bruce Rauner for killing kobe. That makes a lot more sense.

I’d take Granville waiters in a court vision competition over vegan

I think we're as close as we'll get here. Where I see you going wrong is here "a guy that played in the NBA". That's a bit dogmatic. Because you made the league doesn't mean you have superhuman abilities in every single facet and subfacet of the game, from dribbling, to boxing out, zone defense, weak side D, handles, accuracy, etc. The really good players are good at many of those. Some players are good or average at some and actually really bad at others. That's really my point here.

And the ones that are really bad at it at an nba level are considerably better at it than dopes in high school.

I think your point is wrong. The players that make the NBA and play real minutes over several years are so much better at the things you mentioned than you’re giving them credit for.

I think you'd make better ball handling decisions than Eddy Curry.

I think your point is wrong. The players that make the NBA and play real minutes over several years are so much better at the things you mentioned than you’re giving them credit for.

But shaq was bad at free throws dude.

Wasnt one of Eddie curry's ball handling decisions an attempt at handling the balls of his chauffeur?
