Any MLB ballplayer or coach is going to pick up a lot of Spanish if they have a long career. Especially a catcher.

And my take on Maddon's Spanish, at least from what I heard in the various interviews, is that he knew a lot of phrases and even idioms but I'm not sure it was truly conversational Spanish. I don't think he was conjugating too many irregular verbs on the fly.

I wonder how that money is going to be divided. If you remember when the Tribune owned the Cubs, the corporation wasn't paying market rate to the team for broadcast rights under the management philosophy that it is all going to the same place.

I have a feeling the revenues from marquee are separate from the cubs. I've always suspected that the landholdings are as well. This would mean that the Cubs do get a fee from marquee but it isn't the Cubs who are getting the windfall (if there is one). The Ricketts are enriched but that doesn't mean the Cubs are.

I wouldn't expect our local beat cheerleaders to even think about how things might be structured let alone actually ask a tough question about it.

Crane Kenny was on with Screamy and Haugh and said that, "People have been paying for 'GN for years thru their cable subscriber." On the surface, this is true. But when the same company that owns the team also owns the network that airs 130 games on TV and 162 games on radio, it's a little different than Sinclair raking in the bucks.

Just three years ago, the Cubs were World Series Champions and there was talk of a dynasty. Now look at what's going on.

I understand part of the cable bill goes to ABC7, NBC5, WGN, etc. But as gd pointed out the fees are different when the same company doing the broadcasting also owns the team. Not surprised you missed that part of it.

B & B mocked Chuck Swirsky for being a devout Christian. I don't hear him mocked for his faith now that the Bulls are on the Score.

There are many things that change at the Score depending on the changing of the teammates/partners. The term coined by Boers long ago was called being a windsock. For me it was never more tru or obvious than when the Cubs came on. Regardless once the station took on games it was inevitable.
