MSNBC anchor Alison Morris responded to a viral video on Sunday, trying to explain a vocal flub during a report on the death of former NBA star Kobe Bryant that many on social media took to be the N-word.

Not long after the news of Bryant’s death in a helicopter crash broke, Morris told MSNBC viewers that Bryant was “perfectly cast” on the Los Angeles Lakers, except she stumbled over the name of the team. Many believe Morris uttered the N-word but she said that is simply not the case.

“Earlier today, while reporting on the tragic news of Kobe Bryant’s passing, I unfortunately stuttered on air, combining the names of the Knicks and the Lakers to say ‘Nakers,'” Morris tweeted later on Sunday. “Please know I did not & would NEVER use a racist term. I apologize for the confusion this caused.”

She's not helping herself with that ridiculous explanation. We have ears. That's not what she said.

What's wrong with just saying I meant to saw Lakers and it came out as geniuses? You could hear it in her voice, she didn't mean to say it... People are so sensitive it's amazing were still a world power.

Eyewitness describes what he saw and heard.

He thinks the pilot just flew directly into the hill.

Very knowledgeable guy. I took it as fog being the major problem

LA Times did an interview with the pilot that flew for the charter company from 2014-2016 and he said he'd be very surprised if it wasn't weather related. He flew Kobe many times in that same helicopter and said it was a very reliable machine and could fly on one engine. I'd read reports that said Kobe owned the helicopter but it sounded like he had an arrangement with the charter company. Sometimes he would use a smaller helicopter if it was just him or a smaller group but 9 times out of 10 he would use the big one.

In the pictures of the crash scene you can see fog obscuring the tops of the hills and it was probably worse when the crash happened. I've been in that area many times and it takes quite some time for that morning fog to burn off.

Probably. I would be mildly surprised if the NTSB report finds that the probable cause of the crash is anything other than CFIT (controlled flight into terrain).

Did not realize the bodies are still up there on that hill. Three were recovered last night. Six more to go.

What are the chances of surviving a helicopter crash?

I had a client do just that. I guess it was a miracle. The harmonic frequency of the main engine got out of sync and the ensuing vibration tore the helicopter apart.

A crash where you hit the side of a mountain at a reported 160 mph? 0%.

At least we can take some solace in knowing it was probably instantaneous death for everyone on board, there was no long drawn out spinning fall to Earth.

They were going very slow.

Not 160mph.

The vastness of wreckage site seems to indicate otherwise.

Frank you have a real Jim Tilmon vibe rocking in this thread. Do you have a model helicopter handy to demonstrate the final moments?

I could be wrong for sure, but I just don’t know why they’d be going that fast through dense fog.

Normal cruising speed for a chopper like that is about 160-170mph ground speed. The pilot likely was disoriented due to the weather and flew directly into the hillside. At best, there was maybe 3-4 second of notice. Same thing that happened to Korean 801 in Guam in the late 90s.

One of the flight tracking sites reported it was traveling at 160 mph and descending at 4,000 feet per minute. It doesn’t seem he flew straight into the mountain, which would match reports that people thought it didn’t sound “normal” before it crashed.

Yeah where is the idea that it flew into a mountain coming from?

Everything I have read says that it was like climbing out of the fog and then starting to sputter and descend

I guess we will find out when the NTSB finishes their investigation.

The Times is reporting he requested navigation assistance from controllers and they told him he was too low for them to assist. It seems like this was their last contact before the crash. It certainly sounds like the pilot was in distress.
