Wonder if Speigel will again be the Score's baseball "expert" this upcoming season? That would be so great if they gave the job to Julie. The tension, awkwardness, constant references to DV, sexism, lack of poc on her visits to shows would implode the Score.

Not a good luck for the Executive Producer, Rick.

Gotta move KB quick, the Betts trade didn't bring back much, he's a much better player but only one year controlled.

One week to spring training and per Dave Kaplan, the phones are ringing so we'll see. Let's hope they can get a better than decent return and not just give him away.

With Mookie Betts now traded I have confirmed multiple NL teams have contacted Cubs offering packages of prospects/young players. Unsure if a deal gets done before Opening Day. If one doesn't Cubs will probably hang on to him until July trade deadline. Tune in NOW on @ESPN1000

Dodgers also took on about $50 million of Price money.

The offers would have been better had the Red Sox not been attaching Price to the discussions from the beginning.

Same thing will happen if the Cubs attach Heyward to Bryant

I don't see the extra year meaning that much from a budget standpoint. He's already making close to $19m this year and would likely be over $20m each of the next two years. If the Cubs trade him in July, that means they are not contending (I can't really see them doing a trade if they're in the pennant race) and would have paid half his salary this year anyway. Might as well just move him now.

The quality of prospects don't really change when teams are looking to trade for a player prior to a season versus midseason. Teams are sometimes more okay with trading a lot of prospect value midseason because they will only do it when they're in a pennant race. There is a lot of uncertainty trading for a player before the season and giving up a lot of prospects...it could all be wasted effort if you're not in the hunt late in the season.

They will still have three more chances to trade him.

The Cubs are only $4 Million over the luxury tax threshold....theoretically, it doesn't have to be Bryant that gets traded to get under the luxury tax. Schwarber at $7 million could get them under.
BUT....that doesn't help them with the fact that Heyward is taking up $23 million of they payroll pie...ouch.

Bottom line....I think it is Bryant because he is the only one that would be sweet enough to get a team to take on Heyward's contract.

Per many reports, they are about 8M over factoring in bonuses, etc. The only team maybe taking Heyward would be COL in an Arenado trade and that is very unlikely unfortunately.

As much as Heyward has been a drag, I don't know if I'm ready for an everyday outfield of Schwarber/Almora/Happ.

I think it would be Schwarber/Happ/Bryant.

The question is what prospect do you have to attach to Heyward to get a team to take him. Hoerner? Amaya? That Braylin kid who throws 102?

Man I would not want to include any quality player in the Cubs farm system, especially a pitcher.

Trade from the glut of players on the MLB roster IMO.

Nico looked decent last season.

I’ve heard Amaya’s name for a couple seasons now.

Idk past that.

Yeah, Nico seems like he could be a player. Given that he is likely to be the 2nd basemen for the Cub, he doesn't really qualify as a farm guy, yes?

I assume so. Russell and Zobrist are GONE, so who else is going to man 2nd?

Got a bad feeling it’s going to be Happ to start the season.

I think that unless he kills spring training, Nico will be back at AAA. They didn't really want to call him up last year, they just ran out of healthy options not named Descalso.

I don't think that's as bad as most people are saying.. 3 years of Price in a pitchers park @ 16 million a year.
