It’ll never happen I know.

I would absolutely love it. That is/was my biggest issue with the election of Trump. I naively believed that we were inching towards that place and even beat it into my kids heads. The 2016 election and the Trumpetism that followed was an absolute gut punch that brought me to a knee. It forced me to reevaluate some "truths" that I was holding onto.

Yes, the splitting of the races started with the tea parties, and then Trump’s initial response to Charlottesville drove a wedge into race relations that is still having repercussions.

Tbh, my boring job has allowed me to very online, and I gotta say there is a lot more racism from the 20-30 year old African American crowd towards other races than I’ve ever really seen before. Maybe it was always there, but I think the last 4 years have pushed the hate out to the mainstream.

There were MANY things before and after Charlottesville. He brought a bullhorn instead of a dog whistle to the WH. I saw an attempted resurrection of 1956 in the people he surrounded himself with and the things he said. I had chalked a lot of it up to a charlatan doing what he had to do to appease his "crowd". I would constantly say he wasn't racist but what he was doing was dangerous. I'm a little slow but it took a year or so for me to recognize that it wasn't an act. Having a Native American hero take a picture in front of Andrew Jackson was the last straw for me.

Online there have always been ignorant people. I won't rank them but they were there before Trump. People became more emboldened and you started to see the online stuff offline a lot more.

He was just on Ellen. Making pizza with sub host Martha Stewart and Green Day. He seemed fine.

If I call a white woman a patriot (it's been documented that I have), I don't think of it as me calling a white woman a patriot. It's just a woman. She isn't on my "team." Let's not have teams based on skin color.

Pipe dream, maybe, but it takes people from all backgrounds to agree to this approach in order to enact it.

Someone that organizes their own self or their people by skin color is setting their self up to be identified by their skin color. I've never seen a random white person and said "that person is my people because they're white."

If you are preaching unity with white women or dogs, calling them bitches and threatening to harm them defeats the purpose.

You are my guy, but I don't know if you are trolling, simply not putting much thought in your words or it is simple ignorance. America has organized us. It's disingenuous to act if that isn't true. In America you're simply an American and I'm described as an African-American or Black. It doesn't matter if you are Irish like Crest or Polish like GD, you are just an American. When America sees me, I'm a black man first. Not a man or a man who happens to be black. I had no say in that.

It is easy for you to make that statement because you live in a country where 2/3 of the people look like you. I live in the same country and slightly more than 10% of the people look like me. That's removing power and influence from the discussion. If you found yourself in a place where 90% of the people looked different than you, I imagine that you might nod your head when you saw 1 person that did. We are all tribalistic in some way.

I'm not preaching unity with white women. Why would I? We're not on teams based on color of skin. If someone says you are, don't act like you are. Act like that's bullshit and you aren't playing by those rules. The strategy of receding back to black friends, black businesses, black neighborhoods, blacks supporting blacks just seems like self imposed isolationism with the excuse that you're being forced into it.

I'm not trolling. I've pulled all the thought I have into my words, and it is possible that isn't enough thought. But there is no ignorance. That is the point of view that I don't like. There is some aspect of me not being able to relate. I can't avoid that. But I'm living in the same country, and I think I have the same goals as you, at least long term. I just see a different mindset in how to get there.

You know who doesn't refer to me as an American? Some blacks and hispanics. I'm a white boy. It goes both ways. I want to be the guy that reinforces American versus white or black. 10% of people doing that turns into 20% turns into 50% turns into suddenly our grandkids don't even think about the color. Again, possibly a pie-in-the-sky thought. Doesn't mean that shouldn't be the thought.

No one looks like me. I'm too damn gorgeous.

Anyways, it all comes back to Snoop Dogg's personal beliefs outweigh his supposed 'responsibility' toward people of his same skin color. I think that is progress. Let's go back to being individuals with individual passions and beliefs.

Maybe. I interpreted it in such a way that my response was how I wanted to reply.

I took it as you believe Snoop Dogg has harmed a purpose of his as he has attacked a black woman while trying to support general black causes.

I say:

• Snoop Dogg must have his family's back and friend's back before he ever has the back of a group of people just due to some demographic similarity.
• Any group of people can have a bad egg. Calling out a bad egg does not mean you call out an entire group.

IF that's Snoop's point of view then he should practice what he is preaching. Calling her a bitch and threatening her ain't that. She can't be their "sista" only when it benefits them. Ain't no solidarity in that.

This is one of the better exchanges we've had around here where people didn't exactly see eye to eye. Different perspectives being discussed respectfully never gets dull.

It helps that I like him well enough. I mean, for a black guy, of course. :)

I was surprised to see Snoop's comments.

I think he is a very intelligent man. Part of that is that he understands his brand, and he has aged into his 50s as somebody who can be unironicly thoughtful about his choices, like being friends with Martha Stewart and hosting a game show while being an NCAA football dad and maintaining his music career.

There has to be a lot of pain behind his reaction. I don't think he's reacting just to get a rise out of a constituency, or to come off as "authentic." Maybe he has always thought poorly of Gayle King (I personally don't understand what her qualifications are to host morning TV besides being Oprah's non lesbian non lover), maybe he's really grieving the death of a friend.

Well she's no Paul Konrad... Without Oprah's pussy she'd be hosting Good Morning Indianapolis.

Shame on anybody for coming down on Snoop.

Kobe was his friend. I would expect someone's friend to go to the wall for them like that.

I have been wondering if Snoop Dogg is going to get the Dave Chappelle pop culture pass or not.
