How many Oscar movies do you all watch? Is this a thing with your spouse? I know very little about pop culture and movies/stars. Lady Nas loves this shit. She knows everything. She can rattle off the most obscure actor/actress name and all of the movies they were in. It's frightening.

Ten years ago I was all over this shit. I'd usually have watched all the nominees before they were even announced.

But ever since they've expanded the pool they have gotten it wrong every year. It is almost uncanny, and now it is very difficult to take it seriously. Even the noms are often dogshit. Hidden Figures? Bohemian Rhapsody? Hacksaw Ridge? That just scratches the surface. Compare the field that Gladiator, The Departed or No Country for Old Men had to overcome with last year's crop. Skip the fact that the wrong picture sometimes won, at least they had worthy company.

Hopefully this is a return to form, and maybe if people start taking the Oscars seriously again so too will studios.

It was very disheartening that even when we got a special film like Three Billboards... or Hell or High Water it was never even considered. And that despair only accelerated over the years. It was one thing when The Social Network got passed over, but then it was Moneyball. Then it was Zero Dark Thirty. Then Wolf of Wall Street.

Really is a shame.

My wife watches the Oscar movies with her friends over the last couple of weeks.

I am down to going to movies about once every 3 months. Most of the time I just watch any crap that is available at the time I want. I generally liked my movie going experiences in 2019.

I almost turned it off when they started with the Mr. Rogers song. If they wanted to get people excited, that was not how to do it.

Why they dignified that POS of a movie, Joker, by giving Joaquin the Oscar is beyond me. Because he acted like a gay guy? Worst film ever.

I thought Brad Pitt would win and he did. Well deserved.
