Getting a dusting in DeKalb. Calling for an inch or two at the most. Another nothing "storm".

Just remembering, I dreamt last night that we actually got dumped on.

Looked outside, only a dusting.

Looks like the forecasters were right on the money again.

He was not with her. She wasn't going that fast, but slid into the back of a pickup that had a trailer hitch, so our front end is all jacked up. Hoping it's not a total. Thankful everyone is ok.

Other than hitting 3 SB squares, its been a real patch of bad luck in the Coztansa house the last month. Need some good vibes. I also went out and bought a couple of lottery tickets to see if we can win a couple bucks and start to change things around.

The roads in the SW burbs were brutal yesterday. Started snowing around 2pm, and I didn't see a single plow or salt truck until 6pm.

I got rear ended by a chick once(hey hey).

Had a ball hitch on the back(hey hey).

No damage to my Tahoe...the hitch went right through her radiator. Big mess.

2"-4" of snow predicted depending on where you live starting 6pm Wed until Thursday morning.

That really cold arctic air I mentioned yesterday now looks like it will run into a stream of moist Gulf air somewhere in our area…meaning snow…maybe quite a bit of snow.
It looks like we will start seeing some snow Wednesday (yes, tomorrow) afternoon. Temperature will be about 35° and only light snow to begin with so we will probably see some (<1”) wet snow during our afternoon commute. Temperature continues to drop overnight and snowfall picks up. Current forecast is for about 3” +/- between 6pm Wednesday and 6am Thursday morning. Thursday commute will probably suck. Winds are forecast to be gusting from about 20mph to about 30mph Thursday morning while another inch of snow is falling. Temperatures during this period will start in the 20s and continue to fall so snow will probably be really fluffy and blow around a lot. Wind will keep up all day Thursday but snowfall should fall off after about noon. Temperature should have fallen to about 15° by the afternoon commute Thursday. Snow will stop but temperatures will continue to crash to a low of about -4° Friday morning. Wind chill overnight Thursday into Friday morning will be in the minus teens (-14°).

Below are the WPC probabilistic snowfall distributions for getting 2”+ and 4”+ of snow. Looks like a pretty good bet Lake, McHenry and southern Wisconsin will get at least 2” of snow but it looks the better chance of seeing 4” will be further south. Of course, this is all contingent on the air masses behaving like they were modeled…

Here is the Lake County SkyWarn forecast:
OUTLOOK FOR THE COUNTIES OF LAKE, SOUTHERN KENOSHA, EXTREME NORTHERN COOK AND EXTREME EAST MCHENRY

HAZARDS: NONE

SHORT TERM ( 24 HOUR OUTLOOK):Partly cloudy with highs in the mid 30's. Partly cloudy tonight in the low 20's.

LONG TERM THROUGH DAY 7: Next weather system comes in Wednesday afternoon and continues into Thursday morning. Highs Wednesday in the mid 30's. This will be a different type of storm. Instead of snow/water ratios around 8-9:1 (wet snow), ratios look to be closer to 15:1 (fluffy snow) with Omega (upward air motion) being closer to the snow growth zone and a wider growth zone. This will likely be an 18 hour event with generally 2-4" across the area. If the the northern jet stream arrives earlier, snow amounts in the north could be reduced with no change in the south. Still a couple of renegade models keeping snow amounts closer to 1-2". This storm will be on the front edge of an Arctic cold front which will bring the coldest temperatures of the winter season. Temperature will fall from the upper 20's Thursday morning to the mid teens by evening. Wind chill will be down near zero by then. Overnight lows Friday morning will likely be sub zero area wide. Friday highs will be in the upper teens but we recover quickly to the mid 30's Saturday and the low 40's by Monday. There is a chance of snow Saturday afternoon and rain and snow Saturday night into Monday morning.

DETAILS: TODAY THROUGH MONDAY
Today:(C) Partly cloudy. High 35. W winds 8-12
Tonight:(C) Partly cloudy. Low 23. W-SW winds 4-7
Wednesday:(C) Snow likely in the mid and late afternoon.. High 34. SW winds 7-11
Wednesday Night:(C) Snow. Low 23. NW winds 5-8
Thursday:(C) Snow likely in the morning with snow showers in the afternoon. High 27 in the morning falling to 15 by evening. N-NW winds 13-17 with gusts to 25.
Thursday Night:(B) Clearing and colder. Low -4
Friday:(B) Mostly sunny. High 18
Friday Night:(B) Partly cloudy. Low 13
Saturday:(C) Increasing clouds. High 35
Saturday Night:(C) Chance of snow.. Low 27
Sunday:(C) Chance of rain and snow. High 37
Sunday Night:(C) Slight chance of rain and snow. Low 33
Monday:(C) Chance of rain and snow in the morning. High 42

The commutes Weds PM and Thurs AM could be very bad.

Overall, we have been pretty lucky this winter with above average temps and lack of any big snows. I'm sure we'll get dumped on (HEY HEY!! ) before the season is out, but it's not been too bad by any means this Winter.

Given the past two awful Springs, we are due for some real nice weather in March and April this year.

I just got a sub soil moisture map sent to me.. I know, exciting stuff you get as a farmer. Hit I could do with about a month of dry weather. Been an easy winter though, so I’m not complaining.

Really good chance we will all see at least 1” of snow. About a 70%+ chance of seeing at least 2” of snow but only about a 5% - 10% chance of seeing more than 4” of snow…so expect about 2” – 3” of fluffy snow.

for Lake County.

It's been snowing pretty hard in Mt. Prospect for the last 30 minutes or so and is now starting to stick to sidewalks and cars. It kills me how it has started around 3:30 or so the last few times...like it knows when to start to screw up rush hour.
