This is a parenting problem IMO. No chance I'm supporting this in any way at 12.

Kid has probably been negatively influenced by being exposed to radical liberalism.

Saw this . I think it’s one thing to support your children but I don’t know if I would’ve went the whole “ have to announce this to the world “ on social media route with something so controversial

I saw this yesterday on Ellen. I take it with a grain of salt as Ellen being a lesbian is a audience where Wade would be perhaps careful how he discussed it. He seemed to genuinely love his kid and want this to go well. He said one thing though that seemed to be a lie or scripted.

He was talking about this event as she came out and he said he first reaction was "you are a leader and you will make a great person to drive this" or something close to that.

Good for Dwyane Wade! You all need to stop living in the 1950s!

How does someone who has never been a girl know what it feels like to be a girl?

Have you seen that kid? He’s more likely to dominate Kylie Jenner in the cosmetic industry than he ever will Britney Griner on the hardwood .

Making it a national media story seems a little strange even for celebrities but ultimately you have to support your kid and let them figure things out for themselves. You can't ground them for it.

We're not talking about "Dad, I'm gay and like boys", we're talking about a sex change at 11 or 12. That's an adult decision.

Sorry, not a pedo. I don't search out photos of other people's children.

This whole story is weird with Wade just exploiting his child. Why is this news?

Even if your belief that this decision to "change" is not a wrong thing I would expect many shrink visits to be sure the person involved isn't mistaken.

I agree. If you're gay, you're gay. But when you insist you're something you're obviously not, I think it demands a lot more questioning than simply accepting the insistence.

Wade's been coached what to publicly say so not to damage any future business ventures.

You don't punish the kid but you explain to him that it's a decision he has to make as an adult. A lot can change in 6 or 7 years.

Agreed. This isn't about punishing, your job as a parent is to make the best decisions for your child that you can. I would say, the brain fully develops around 25yrs of age, and would tell the kid, at that point, you can make any decision you want.

I feel like I like guys. Normal.

I feel like a girl. Not Normal.

You have a quirky sense of humor so I'm not exactly sure how to take this post. But I'll respond as if it's sincere.

I wouldn't use the word "normal" here at all. That opens up a completely new discussion, i.e. is normal the highest value to which we should aspire?

Neither thing is normal. The first can't be normal, as if it were it would mean the end of the human race. But it's a feeling that really demands no further examination. The guy is attracted to guys. Okay. That's it.

In the case of a boy insisting he is a girl, there are many questions. What is a girl? How do you know how a girl feels?

Wade is a con man. I wouldn't doubt the whole thing is a sham for more publicity.

I would guess that they have told him that but it also would be hard to say that if these feelings are real you have to suppress them until you are old enough to vote.

Nobody is questioning whether his feelings are real (except Hatchetman). The question is what those feelings mean.

The word "boy" has a meaning. The kid in question is obviously a boy. If you don't think so, we may as well just end the conversation here because it is impossible for us to communicate when we can't accept common definitions of words.

When the child says he is a girl, the first question the parent should ask is, "What do you think a girl is?"

If you think about it, the idea that a child who feels a particular way must be a girl is a really conservative one, i.e. that girls are like this and boys are like that.

That doesn't mean that you suppress anything. It's telling a child that hormone therapy and a complete transition are decisions that need to be made as an adult. You love him and allow him to express himself in whatever age appropriate way he desires.

We both know that MANY things we wanted or liked at 11 or 12 were different at 15. What we think are great ideas at 15 changes at 18. This pattern continues throughout life. An 11 or 12 year old can't understand that.
