From what I've read, Kipnis' defense is still good and in a straight platoon, he is decent with the bat. Given it's a minor league deal and only 1M if he makes the team (plus incentives) he's worth a look.

For some guys, the years of "bulking" up, sends them into a brick wall.

He's parlayed that into career earnings of over 53M. Not bad. He did still hit 17 HR's last year so still some pop.

Hometown guy who will get to retire as a Cub, hopefully on his own terms. If he can be an effective PH against RHP he will be an asset who can start twice a week with the right matchups.

My fear is that the analytics guys will decide that he's the best choice for a leadoff hitter against RHP (and Almora against LHP) and he'll get overexposed and will end up sucking.

Listening to a lot of Theo this morning on M&H I am not sure who is lying. One contradiction is when guys like Bernsie claim so strongly as he did yesterday that more and more front office help/really run the teams. Theo said no fucking way basically and Joe did it all.

was this deal made in the same place Bernstein claimed Theo would cut his deal with Rahm?

Not only do we owe this bum 2.5M this year (plus incentives for AB's) but there is a 1M buyout for next year on a 3.5M option. What a terrible signing by Theo.

Brutal, and Lastella was half the price, twice the production. It all stemmed from Tommy telling Theo( rightfully so) get fucked..I'm not going to AAA, I'm hitting.300..send Coughlin down or some other scrub.

The chemistry between clubhouse and front office seems to have been fucked since somewhere around 2017-2018.

Yep. I was very surprised they dumped Lastella for basically nothing. And then he raked before getting injured.

LaStella was dumped because he acted like a baby and refused to go to the minors.

I do not think that is all that rare after a championship. Who did what and who gets credit etc.

No, LaStella was dumped because their backup SS got himself suspended for the first month and a half of the season and they needed somebody who could stand at SS for a game or two if Baez had a minor injury or got himself suspended arguing with an ump.

Theo fucked up by trading away DJ Lemehieu, then thought Ian Stewart was anything other than a buster..traded for Coughlin and tried to punish Lastella for his Fuckups..while the kids was hitting .300 and the best pinch hitter I've ever seen in a Cub uniform..fuck Theo.

Can't disagree with any of that. The analytics boys thought that DJLM was too tall to be a 2B. Dumbasses.

I'll be the guy to say it's a good signing. I think he'll be better than a platoon player.

This will go down as one of the worst offseasons for a big market team ever. The signing that they have made are ones you would expect the Royals or Pirates to make. This starting rotation is a joke. You have 2 decent starters, and maybe a half with Q. Lester and Chatwood aren't going to cut it. It the win total gets posted at 86, I'm all over the under.

Win total o/u is 85 for both the Cubs and White Sox at William Hill Nevada.

Cubs are 11-1 to win the NL (Dodgers are 8-5). The Reds are a better value at 14-1.

Arenado/Bryant talks ongoing. If he waives his opt-out and there is a way of somehow helping them get under the CBT threshold (maybe Chatwood is included with his 13M), then I say do it. Him and Javy on the left side of the infield? Forget about it...!

How much of Arenado's contract would Colorado eat? $10m per year? (Out of $32m.) I suppose the Cubs would like to lock in Arenado for 7 x $22m. From the Rockies' standpoint, you get Bryant for a couple years at around $28m (his arb number plus the $10m for Arenado) and maybe you get a prospect?

The key is Arenado holds all the cards and the situation seemingly is highly toxic, so the Cubs need to figure out a way of making this a no brainer deal. Having COL eating 10M or so plus him waiving the opt-out must happen, then maybe dump Chatwood's 13M along with Bryant and they are under the CBT. COL can then trade Bryant for prospects now, at the deadline or next year plus they can always flip Chatwood too if he performs well given his expiring contract. I'm sure the Cubs would have to throw in a decent prospect, maybe their number 30 prospect, too.

Make it happen. Him and Javy would be incredible on defense not to mention offensively.

Get it done Theo.

I'm wondering where Kipnis is an improvement on just bringing Zobrist back

Zobrist says he has no plans on playing next year and he made 11 million more last year than Kipnis signed for.

I didn't end up going to the Open House season ticket event at Wrigley yesterday, mainly due to the weather --but also I realized it was a losing proposition. Apparently the tax law changes from last year eliminated all deductions for sports tickets, so it really doesn't make sense. Corporations are probably dumping them in droves, and brokers are getting destroyed.
