Wow. That is devastating for sports on a lot of levels. I bet that gets changed at some point.

On top of STH prices being absurd. My number came up this year and they badgered me all winter. There's no value prop to being a Cubs STH at the moment.

So next year, if your team cuts your favorite player because his salary is too expensive, maybe it’s because his game has slipped. But maybe it’s also because Uncle Sam’s new tax policy has thrown an unexpected curve ball.

Maybe for NHL where attendance is still a key revenue driver. But for NFL, NBA, MLB where they rely on TV for revenue they're fine. The owners are just being cheap.

Last season I sold all my tickets over the winter. This season I've sold over 3/4 of them. Might sell them all...we'll see. I was able to relocate to about the best seats in my same price range.

The next step up was another $20k. Fuck that.

Yeah, I've wondered about that. As much as it sucks to outlay even more dough, maybe the higher-priced tickets hold up better in a downturn.

Not sure how you sold so many without the barcodes...

I sell 1/4 season blocks with a playoff option. I'm not selling individual games.

He made 11 million because he was at the end of a contract. Of course he would have to take a haircut.

Even if he took a 50% pay cut, the Cubs aren't going to give a 38 year old 5 million a year.

very little. They announced that "after long consideration" they were going to "let" combo plan ticket holders become full season ticket holders.

Gee thanks, no, I'd rather keep my combo plan that has none of the weekday 1:20 games, other than holidays. Thanks, and you're welcome.

I'm not sure why you would think last year's contract has any bearing on what a free agent contract would look like. Kipnis made 14 million last year and now he doesn't.

If he doesn't want to play, that is another thing.

Kipnis is 6 years younger and signed a 1 million dollar minor league deal. So what's a potential Zobrist contract...maybe the same but probably less? And he's already played 13 years.

Cubs had no interest and looks like Zobrist doesn't either.

No. Marketplace. I offer 1/4 season shares of my season tickets. Lump sum paid to Cubs. Playoff option included. I keep opening day for myself, then divvy the games evenly starting with game 2 ..abcd, abcd, and so on out to game 81. 20 games evenly distributed throughout the season. Then I randomly match each batch of tix to a shareholder. It's as fair as can be.

If you look at 2020 Cubs player salaries the Cubs could have near 50% bad money. Darvish and Chatwood improved lat year, but many guys Cub's careers including these two have been failures.

Are there rules about managers talking to GM's/Presidents of Ops during games? I assume they can't text message, but is there a phone that is linked to the dugout? Like can Theo call down there and suggest a bullpen move or a PH or something? I mean, I know he "CAN" in that its possible, but is there a rule that allows or disallows such a conversation?

I'm genuinely curious.

I can't imagine Scott Boras is happy with it. Bryant's RBI totals were shit as it is. Not sure how much that stuff will go into his perceived value when he hits free agency, or if teams ignore that completely nowadays.

Having said that, it could be good for the team.

40 more PA over the course of the season versus hitting 3rd. Counting stats, besides RBI, should show a little bit of a boost.

Mookie Betts leads off. I don't think anyone thinks his contract potential has been harmed by it.

Your best hitters should always bat higher in the lineup. The first team that orders their batters 1-9 based on OPS in descending order is going to have a huge offensive advantage over the course of a season.

His OBP is great.
There isn't really a better option to leadoff. Nothing wrong with this decision at all.
