Yes, it's a damn shame Bob was correct.

That depends on the rate of snow and the temperature of the ground. If there's plenty of frost in the ground and heavy enough snow, of course it will accumulate.

if the air temp is 37 degrees, i'm going to go with the ground temp being close to if not the same value.

So you think the ground temp fluctuates in sync with the air temp?

I'm gonna take the word of the engineer on this although I'm sure the ground temp lags the air temp by a matter of hours and depending on wind and cloud cover.

generally, i would think that the air temperature 1' off the ground is similar to the ground temperature. obviously if it's 50 degrees out and there is snow melting, there is going to be a difference there, but the temps all normalize at some point. slower in the winter and faster in the summer.

thermodynamics!

I'm socked in with many millimeters of accumulation.

What are those predictions on the ice cap melting? 2014? No. 2023? No. I think we're at 2030 now.

I'll go with Bob. Bob, when will the arctic ice cap be gone?

I'm gonna say we got 1.6 inches, I heard on the radio two days ago Chicago had 26" for this winter.. I don't see how, seems more like 9" maybe 10.

I believe the snow we received on Halloween is still the largest snowfall of this fall / winter .

Either that or the one we got in mid January that hit right before rush hour on a Friday.

By the lakefront it looked worse than it was. Only a few inches. Last night it was slushy and heavy, haven't been out this am. But this morning it was blowing.

Maybe 2" on the grass here in the SW burbs. The roads were barely covered at all. We lucked out.

We will be fine. As soon as the financial motivations are present, climate change will be solved via private industry and innovation. You might see a city like Miami completely go underwater, but who cares.

So Tom Skilling made a FB post several days ago that he was going to be off the air for about 6 weeks getting bariatric surgery due to his weight. Turns out my cousin is the surgeon who worked on him at Northwestern Memorial last week.

That’s not possible. Leading weather experts on this board (not named Frank) have stated unequivocally that it can’t snow if it’s above freezing and it certainly can’t stick to the ground.

Been back for over 2 years. As I stated ,after my brother passed away my mother wanted me closer so I moved back to Illinois.

I woke up to about 5 inches of snow this morning. Now it's sunny, warm(ish) and the snow is all gone. If we could string together a few nice Spring days I think my mental state would improve greatly.

The snow this morning (even though I saw it falling yesterday) was a bit jarring in its amount. Was pleased to see it melt away. A couple days around 60 and sun would be very welcome.
