Did anyone else watch Old Fashioned: the story of the Wisconsin supper club on Ch 11 last night?

It was a documentary on all the supper clubs in Wisconsin that are still operating. This was a perfect watch for Joe. I thought it was fun and interesting in the same way the hot dog one was a couple of years ago.

Wisconsin people are a funny group but generally nice people. The facial hair and fashion sense are anachronistic, like stepping back 30 years.

I didn't know it was on or I would have watched it. I'm sure I'll be able to catch it soon.

The closing credits said it was made in 2015. If it hasn't been on before, that seems like a long time between filming and showing. If you can't get a Wisconsin supper club documentary on PBS in Wisconsin-Illinois-Minnesota, your film isn't making money

I saw it. Loved some of the quotes from customers and owners. They showed this older couple several times. She talked, he never said a word. Not exact but, "They take care of their regulars. If they know you need a heart healthy diet, they use unsalted butter." Almost did a spit take.

Sander's in Niles.

Great place. Unfortunately they recently cut their hours to 4pm. Used to be a great late-evening spot for dinner.

Downer's Delight on 75th St near Darien is good too.

There is a chain callled.prime quarter. Like an op-ed fashioned Wisconsin place. I went to the one in Princeton. Food was good and place was even moderate on a weekday at opening.

 Millie's on Lincoln near Fullerton. It's not too bad. Great Old Fashioned.

I went there last night before a show at Lincoln Hall. I was not impressed. $4 for a 11.5 oz PBR draft was ridiculous too.

That would be Market Square in Wheeling.

We order lunch from here a couple of time a week.

I have no idea. Nothing on the draft list really stood out to me so I just went with the PBR. Bartender gives it to me in this tiny glass which I finished in probably less than 5 minutes. I was going to order another drink, so I asked how much the PBR pour was and he told me $4. That's when I asked the guy how big the serving was. I would have preferred just getting a tall boy, but the draft was my only option.

The food was just okay. Not terrible, but very overpriced for what I received.

Sycamore has the "Parkway" which used to be "Kingsway" or something like that...
DeKalb has "The Junction" which many thousands of college students have kept in business/staffed

The Hob Nob which is the local big supper club around here was nominated for a regional James Beard award. We went a few months ago with some friends and I just wasn’t that impressed. The food was ok, atmosphere ok, service not good. I must not have had enough to drink and their dessert drinks were like $15 a piece. I won’t be going back anytime soon.

I'm surprised that they were nominated for a Beard award and I'm just as surprised that you had such a mediocre experience. Granted, I haven't been there for a long time, but if nothing else, that room is great.

That's the thing about "old school" dining, I wouldn't really call it "cuisine". It's not really "cheffy". That's why the Beard nomination surprises me.

Hob Nob is definitely a place that could only exist in the upper Midwest. I like regionality. My wife and I were in Memphis last year and we ate at a couple high end restaurants that were really good, but they could have been anywhere in the country. There was nothing about them that screamed "Memphis". I'm not going to argue for the food at The Rendezvous but it couldn't exist anywhere else in the world.

My wife and I go to Hob Nob every year around Christmas. It's decent, but a little overpriced.

Need to hit up the Stage Stop in Wilmot and the Village Supper Club in Kenosha at some point.

Drove by Joe & Josie’s on Archer the other day. It looked like a place that would qualify for this thread.

Any thoughts?

I have family members who are fond of JC's on Joliet Rd in McCook, but I've never been there.

I took everyone to Hob Nob last night to celebrate Bernstein and my wife's birthday. I wouldn't say the food is great and it is pricey for being in WI but the overall experience is just pain enjoyable. I would definitely recommend taking a night and heading up for a fun evening.

While the prices were steeper than I would have thought they could charge, you get more food than even a typical Wisconsin woman could eat.

The beer garden at Resi's is one of my favorite spots in the city.

From what I've seen in rural Illinois, the Supper Club is there but it is less about Fish Fry and more about Family-Style fried chicken and pasta.

I was 20 years old before I realized that family-style "ravioli" wasn't even ravioli. It was tortellini in tomato sauce.

checked out Il Vicinato tonight.

Was great.

Down the street was a buncha Italian restaurants with outside dining in the street.

Had no idea any of that was there. Is that Little Italy or some shit?
