that was unsurprisingly uninformative

I think, it gave me a more linear view of each position in the minors.

I have a suspicion that Madrigal is up much later than we are all anticipating, especially if the team is playing well. He really hasn’t had many at bats in the minors

Instead of may 1 I think it will be more like july1

I have a hard time believing, once they get the control on him, that he is not up. I think his style needs to be getting ABs at the ML level, not wasting in the minors. I am not sure, we have seen a hitter like him before.

The majority of players in baseball history have primarily used their bat to get on base. Madrigal is actually not that unique.

I dont think he's really worth the service time chicanery. His likely outcome is as a serviceable big leaguer who causes a disproportionate amount of headaches for batting so late in the order and plays great defense, but still isn't an offense-carrying juggernaut.

The rate he strikes out, coupled with putting a bat on the ball, I can not come up with a comparable player.

If he has a good camp he should start with the big club day one, he's 23 and he hit .330 in AAA.

Dustin Pedroia

If he does that at the MLB level

True. Also, Nellie Fox comes to mind but with a lot more speed. He's going to lead off when he comes up with Anderson going to the two hole.

Ricky says it will likely be Moncada or Timmy leading off. He also says he's going to stick with a more balanced, in traditional lineup rather than move guys around all the time.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/ ... an-moncada

Great. Lead off the guy with the .280 OBP. Maybe we can set a record for most sac bunts too.

Oh. I thought I put this in the opening day lineup thread. My bad.

I tend to agree Jorr. If Timmy is going to hit .330 again, then yeah he can lead off. Moncada I would like to see hitting 2nd or further down in the order to be a run producer.

Anderson is a perfect 9 hole hitter. I hope they put him down there if Madrigal can do what he does in the big leagues.

Are you sure, you don't wanna re-think that statement? The 9 hole is for people that suck.

come on, man. The guy is the reigning batting champ.

he has to prove he isn't a .330 hitter before I put him that low in the lineup

Actually, Leury is the perfect 9 hole hitter. Some speed, generally doesn't strike out, and should be able to turn the lineup over more often than not.

He struck out 139 times in his first year as a full time starter.

I agree he fits in at 9 on this lineup. He's a backup...soon

That would really waste his ability as a hitter. He really belongs in the two hole because of his ability to make contact and also being able to take pitches on straight steal situations. He isn't ideal as a lead-off guy. To me, that guy should be Grandal because of his ability to get on base. This is, of course, until Madrigal comes up.

As far as the White Sox are concerned, Luis Robert is a top 10 prospect in baseball by just about everyone, Michael Kopech is usually in the top 20 or 30 and Andrew Vaughn and Nick Madrigal aren't too far behind.

Keith Law of The Athletic sees it differently for one of those four. Law released his top 100 prospects on Monday and featured just three White Sox prospects.

Robert came in at No. 6, Kopech was at No. 16 and Vaughn was ranked 28th. There was no Madrigal though.
Somewhere, Keyser sheds a tear while the rest of us don't care.

How did Law manage to get employment at The Athletic? That's as shocking as finding out Connor McKnight is athletic.

why would anyone care where guys on the very cusp of MLB are ranked by these chumps?

We will soon be able to make up our own minds about them.

Law said he saw 13 Robert at bats. We will see more than that in his first two weeks.

Its going to be a very interesting spring training to see. I just watched the replay of Mercedes home run in the Dodger game. It was a bomb that cleared everything. It had to travel about 500 feet. The guy can flat out hit. Probably will be Collins competition for a roster spot. The other guy who will make things interesting to me is Mendick. I love stories like his has been. A lower round guy who just can flat out play the game. I would not be surprised that he makes the roster also. The fact that you can plug him in at 2nd, SS, 3B, and LF and have a guy with a legit power and OBP is a very good thing.

It really amazing to me to see how BIG these players have become. Moncada on a team 10 or so years ago would have been considered a big player but take a look at the size of some of these guys right now. The Sox starting outfield and DH guys are huge. And when you take a look at the size of many of their pitchers, they also look more like basketball or football players than they do baseball players.

Mercedes just hit a Grand slam against the Indians. Man, that man has great power. I'd pay to watch this guy take batting practice. 8) 8) 8)
