Seabrook and Toews are the only terrible contracts on the Hawks. Unfortunately, they're top 10 worst in the league bad.

I am sure, last season if you would of packaged Seabrook and that lotto pick, Vancouver would of taken him. You suck up 1yr of not having a pick, to get rid of that terrible player and contract. I bet you could do the same this year.

No way. Using ~10% of your salary cap on a healthy scratch is such a massive handicap. Vancouver is on the upswing. Maaaaaybe a tanking team with a 3-5 year plan could be bribed.

My first thought would be market. Is there a market for Toews or Kane vs. what they would be willing to accept somewhere else? What is a Stanley Cup contender willing to pay them right now?

Stanley Cup contenders can't pay them crap. Pens? Caps? No way. They would have to roll dice on a team on the verge. Those teams do not always get over the hump.

I am pretty sure they had discussion before the draft. The Hawks wanted their 1st rder in exchange.

Exactly. Just adding to the reasons that they are unlikely to leave. Unless they want to take a chance on playing for an average team willing to pay them a huge contract, chances are they are not going anywhere. If they are chasing another Cup, they won't get paid much.

Kane LOVES hockey and he absolutely wants to be in the playoffs contending for another Cup. It has been reported how much of a student of hockey he is. He’s gotta think that he has a final act. Legacies are made in the playoffs. Winning another Cup would cement him as an all-time winner. Playing with the Hawks is not going to take him where he wants to go.

What would he be worth to say Colorado if the Hawks retained half of his contract? Would they trade Byram and Newhook for 3 years of 90% prime Kane at 5.25 mil per?

Great. Another 37 shots against, 6 goals against, and another loss. First time being under .500 in a while. Even when we get good production and score 5 goals, we still find a way to lose.

I missed the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of the game. The defense is just so bad and its not just the defensemen. Carpenter just handed them the puck back time after time. There was also zero desire to get physical last night. As soon as St. Louis ratcheted up their physicality the Hawks kind of said no thanks and let them walk all over them. Saad's PPG was nice as it wasn't just him making a play but Dach and Strome setting the table for him. Subban is going to give up 10 goals with that D. Crow had 2 that were pretty bad last night but he also stopped alot of good chances and got burned by his D multiple times.

The netminder had mixed feelings when asked if he was surprised to be traded by Chicago.

"Yes and no," Lehner said. "[If you] asked me a few weeks ago, no. I had high hopes, but nothing happened. Never got an offer of anything, so I figured last few days that's probably going to be the case."

Well, that makes me believe that the FO didn’t think he was a long-term solution, or they are gonna blow this thing up in the offseason.

Also caught the tail-end of an interview with Buccigross on NHL Radio this morning, where they were talking about the possibility of Kane maybe being open to a trade to Buffalo. I know there was speculation a few posts above, but this is the first I’ve heard it brought up in the media.

Love Kane, but the quickest way to rebuild this team is to trade him. No one is taking Seabrook w/o a prospect/pick attached, Toews won't bring much back. This team isn't winning anything with Crawford in goal and the defensemen we have (even if Boqvist makes a huge jump). Trade Keith, Saad, and Murphy; go real young and endure the growing pains along with the high picks they will get.

This has been a no-win situation since 2016....it was obvious then the era was over and there were 5 years of contract hell to suffer.

Kane is the only player still playing to the value of his contract. You'll get squat for Toews. Crawford is a UFA next year so he's off the books. Duncan Keith's cap hit is $5.5 million.....it's not the end of the world, but it is when you add in Toews and Seabrook. Keith, Toews, and Seabrook bring you NOTHING in return.

The Blackhawks are going to go into full White Sox mode over the next 3 years....we already saw it with Crawford getting as much playing time as he did. Everything will be on the past and how much we love Captain Serious and the Hawks run on Duncan. Their contracts aren't movable and they'll play good enough to stay out of tanking territory.

I miss the Blackhawks being good at hockey.

The Seabrook and Toews' contracts were the killers. Keith was a bargain at his salary. Seems the FO is more interested in marketing a subpar product than actually rebuilding a team that will maintain the fan base. Kane and/or Toews need to be traded this off-season if you want to maintain cap flexibility. I hope Crawford goes somewhere else because this defense will get him killed.

Sure. Just have to reset in the correct way to make sure lean years can lead to progress and another strong period for Chicago hockey.

Yes for sure. I listened to the 2nd period in as much disgust as the announcers. Sorry I didn’t stick around for the third.

How we some how managed to score 5 goals in 15 minutes after playing such a horrible 45 minutes leaves me speechless. Crawford played really good tonight, however. I will just write this one off as a lucky win for now.

The Lightning were 28-0-4 when leading after 2, until last night.

Yeah, ridiculous how that happened last night. I would put more of an emphasis on Tampa becoming too complacent and having a melt down in the 3rd, as opposed to anything spectacular that we did.

I watched the first two but the stream was glitchy so I stopped.. was a wee bit surprised when the score flashed on my phone. They looked like hot garbage much of the game.

Yes absolutely. That 3rd period was a total meltdown on Tampa's part, and really had nothing to do with us playing well.

It hurts every time to watch our horrific defense. Another 40 shots against last night. Every. Single. Game. All of our wins come on either Crawford playing good, or us having an offensive outburst. We can NEVER count on our defense. Our shots FOR vs. AGAINST this year is -259. Worst in the NHL. We allow on average 36 shots against per game. No words can describe how bad we need an overhaul on defense.

Kane and Strome really stepped up last night. Crawford had another solid game. Defense played horrible again. We allowed another 39 shots. As good as our 6-2 win was last night, it does not give me any hope to get into the playoffs. As long as we keep allowing roughly 40 shots per game, things won't get any better. Crawford is too inconsistent, and we can't expect these offensive outbursts every game.

Getzlaf is such a donkey. He is either one of the dumbest guys out there or he has physically regressed to having the body control of a newborn calf. It's not everyday you see a guy play that out of control. Strome looks a hell of alot more comfortable back at center. I thought Keith actually played pretty well despite being slow. He was in the right spot to clear a bunch of crap out from around and behind the net. I didn't realize Matta was so bad but he kind of is. It was cool to see Nylander kind of wake up and take it to another level offensively for once.
