The other day I spent close to an hour waiting for a non-working railroad crossing. The traffic was backed up pretty bad and some people even crossed the railroad between the gates.

And they can't even be bothered to check that everyone has a ticket.

This, or instead of sitting at a gate that's down for an hour, just turn around and go through a different crossing.

Preferably with Douchebag as a passenger.

It's a gandfathered system. They own the rails regardless of the townships they cut through. They have total jurisdiction to what goes on when. If the railroad people decide they must go through the middle of a city during rush hour, there is nothing the city can do about it. The reason it won't change is because theres nothing even close to as cheap as delivering by rail.

Have you ever been to a model railroad show? Its the most bi-polar group of people I've ever seen. Half of the people are pretty cool and just enjoy the nostalgia. The other half are a level of dork I've never witnessed before, with the exception of some of our board events.

It has been made worse by the acquisitions of the Canadian National Railway. Trains are now considerably longer. As someone who used to work in Franklin Park I have felt the pain of railroad crossings.

There has been a lot of work in the area to try and raise railroad crossings and improve unsafe ones, and link some of the lines. The City of Chicago is pretty heavily involved, especially south and east.

It's amazing to me it's 2020 and big cities like Chicago haven't made their railways completely non invasive yet. Skyline hasn't changed in 40 years either. Sad!

I’d rather wait for a train than eat their chili.
