Thinking that open houses are problem homes is an old thought.

Realtors just tell you it's happening now. It's not a question anymore, because it works.

Ended up accepting today. Closing is set for 3/30 which gives me a month buy a house. Not gonna be easy, I'm very picky and so far haven't found anything we really like. Looked at 11 houses over the weekend. Gonna raise our budget a bit and see what happens.

How far north is your cutoff as far as towns you’d consider?

Lincolnshire and Lake Forest. Sucks because there's a big drop off in price and increase in value when you get to Vernon Hills. But, its just too far from my office. I don't want to be more than 15 minutes max.

We'd go as far west as Wheeling, but there isn't really anything nice there. At least nothing on the market. As far south as Glenview, but we prefer to be north so we can get a little land and a big yard.

How bout Skokie? I've always liked Skokie if I would move out of the city and go north.

Don't want to jinx it, but I think we found a house! It's in Deerfield, my old stomping ground. Pretty much perfect for what we are looking for. saw it at an open house yesterday. My realtor is going to go check it out today with the broker and see if anything is wrong with the place that we didn't notice. Also hoping to gauge interest so we know how low we can go on the offer.

Got the house! Hoping to close 3/30, same day as I close on my condo.

Sent in a deposit for 2 puppies as well from the same breeder in Ohio I got my Lionel from. Puppies supposed to be ready for pick up in June.

Only thing left to do is visit ABT and start looking at home theatres. Gonna mancave the shit out of teh finished basement. Already has a really nice bar and a full bathroom, plus a spare bedroom. Might just live down there. Actually want to tear out the bedroom and just make a bigger rec area, get more room for the dogs to play. Maybe get a pool table, but not sure how much use it would get. Might just opt for the extra space for the dogs to run around.

congrats, give it a minute before building the theater... after living in house for a few months may change mind of where/what you want for that.

sound advice. Was thinking the same thing. Gonna live there a bit before getting the man cave going. Will probably deck out the TV family room area first. For now just gonna put all my current stuff in the family room and then take my time to figure things out.

Glad it worked out for you shakes. Was in a similar situation last year except we made an offer on the house first and then had to turn around and get ours ready to sell right after the offer was accepted. Not the order I would recommend. Hope you are close to some golf

Put a putting area in the basement. Or the backyard. Or both.

best part of the house is it has what I'm calling an infinity yard. The backyard ends and continues into a cool little park that used to be an elementary school. Walking trail, baseball fields, basketball court. Best part is we are at the very end of the park and there's a big field right outside our house so we're not right by the aforementioned baseball fields. I was told that the only people who use that field are the occasional little kid soccer game. So I'll be able to go out there with the dogs or my wedge and screw around.

Where do you think you will play golf out there? Near any courses?

There are probably at least two dozen public courses within a 30 minute drive of his place.

I am aware that there are a number of courses in the suburbs. I was wondering if he had an eye on one to join.

Deerfield, Sunset Valley, Sportsman (when it re-opens) are all going to be within 5-10 minutes. If I want to go somewhere nice I'm a lot closer to Stonewall, Sheperds Crook and Thunderhawk than I was living in Chicago which will be really nice.

Is Bob O'Link Golf Club part of Sunset Valley, or a completely different club/course.

Bob O Link is private, men only. There are some funny stories of club tournies there with t0pless hostesses on some or all the holes.

That's what I thought, but the interwebs lead me to believe they were connected somehow.

the two course properties touch each other so they are connected in that literal sense, but they are worlds apart in every figurative sense.

EDIT: Sunset just underwent a 2 year renovation and is now a lot nicer than it ever was.

I remember Sunset Valley as being a typical, kinda shitty municipal course. I'll have to give it a shot this year.

It was just as you described it. But, then they did a full renovation job. Typical stuff, they took out most of the trees and opened the course up. Added lots of mounding and new bunkers. New greens and some re-routed holes. Much better than before.
