Exactly. Sure, they’d take the money and spend it. But that’s offset by the people who are owed money (doctors, hospitals, etc) and not getting paid. They won’t be able to pay their bills.

With my limited brain capacity I don’t see how you can just wipe away all current debt. Just have people pay it off as they are now, and then when they hit zero they are free.

So when you go to the doctor, you have to pay upfront? Because normally we all incur “medical debt” after visiting the doctor. They extend us credit and require payment on terms 30-60 after your visit.

Our entire system only works when people pay for the services they receive. Otherwise, no one would show up to work. Lest you think the government is some great payor, Medicaid is literally the worst and slowest payor in the entire medical field. Doctors describe Medicaid patients as charity care because they never receive full payment from the state.

Medicare pays its bills, but they reimburse at much lower rates than private insurance. For all the crap the private health insurers get, they are subsidizing Medicare and Medicaid.
