I'm not Doug Llewelyn, but it would seem the governor has fairly broad powers during a legit emergency, which this most certainly is.

Did he invoke martial law?

You think JB Pritzker is a Democrat? No wonder you're so confused when Tall Midget is trying to explain politics to you.

He ran as a Democrat and you're criticizing him so it's safe to say he's a Democrat or a Republican who has criticized the president. How is the Hazardous Youth Militia powered by AARP coming along?

I have no idea whether he criticized the president, nor do I care. If you think I'd be cheering a Republican for trampling my rights, think again.

I know that Pritzker has a "D" next to his name. That just goes to show you that the parties are obsolete. What Democratic values does that fat tax evading billionaire actually have? If there were a Venn diagram where would your values and Pritzker's intersect?

I know you love pointing out that "Bernie isn't a Democrat". I'd say that Bernie is far more of a Democrat than JB Pritzker will ever be.

Yes, I would say a potential once/century pandemic situation would count as an emergency.

And you're certain that's what this is?

I find it interesting that it's such an "emergency" yet in the "How is it affecting your life" thread not one person is doing anything that isn't being imposed on them.

Yes I am certain that what the situation is. Like when a hurricane is headed at you, You don't say, "Look! nothing has happened to me, this is not an emergency!"

Maybe the hurricane turns away back into the ocean or dies out. Maybe you have a Katrina situation on your hands. Who knows?

You can tell this is bullshit when crowds of more than 250 are banned, but schools shall remain open.

Schools at least for now are staying open because schools are more important than an NBA game.

Other states are closing schools. That's definitely a surefire way to expedite the fucking of our economy over this nonsense.

I don't think turning an upcoming Spring Break from one week into two weeks is a bad thing.

CLosing schools indefinitely seems like a bit much. If a student has the virus and exposed others, I get it. Besides, when CPS closes the hardest hit are the poor, and they already lack money and MANY lack medical resources.

No. Its accurate. A terrible metaphor.
Truthfully, Pritzkers comments are closer to telling fire in a theater than getting on a metra train with 999 more people is.

Yelling fire in a theater is a constitutionally tested theorem testing the limits of free speech. It is unrelated to the limiations the government can impose on the right of the people to peaceably assemble. The reason it's a terrible metqphor is because you're comparing limitations of separate clauses.

An emergency is when you can't get funding for a border wall, not some stupid pandemic.

The point is that there are limits to Constitutional rights. However, this is more similar to a curfew which has been also Constitutionally tested.

I think that's clear. He's spreading and inciting panic with words. This is a more apt metaphor (as you unnecessary pointed out below) than a limitation on the peaceably assemble.

brick wrote:

Yes. There are limits to constitutional rights. Limiting the right of the people to assemble in groups of fewer than 1000 or 250 is not tested however. What's really, or should really be tested here, is the limitations of the governor's ability to make such decisions and of course the enforcement part as well. They use "force" to break up an assembly.... will charges be filed? Which charges?

Yes thank you for assuming I'm illiterate. I'm telling you these are not similar things.
