Our school district is doing a curb side "drive thru" pick up at high school and middle schools. Tues/Thurs next week and Mon/Wed the following week. 2 meals per child/per pickup day.

"Yes, can we get one Bar-Bee-Q Ribwich and one bag of taco stuff in a Fritos bag?"
AND ONE CHOCOLATE MILK! We have regular milk at home. BUT I WANT CHOCOLATE!

Good question. I know where I live the county does provide meals over summer break for those students as we have several year round schools in each city. Not sure about Christmas or Spring Break since the school is actually closed then also. Something I need to find out!

There are resources available during the summer and Christmas break that don't exist for unexpected days off. During the strike in Chicago schools were still open for the kids. During the summer kids can still go to schools.

You had no point per usual, then pulled your usual passive aggressive drama queen act. Unless you think the virus is a hoax you close the schools. A few more people gather at schools than at NBA games. Canceling the NBA but keeping schools open is a punitive act that does nothing other than make a meaningless gesture.

Shelters have rules on how much, what, made by who etc that they have to follow I think.

I would think that the city's Senior centers would have something set up. Check out the Atlas Center over here over on 79th and Cregier. Or St. Sabina on 78th and Racine.

I think this was all addressed, at least as far as chicago goes, even on Friday.

While I agree that feeding and daycaring is an unusual burden on the school system, I am thankful CPS recognizes and accepts this increased role.

I would guess that the Chicago Public Schools are not a safe place for many students. I would also venture that there is not much we can do about children with parents who have no interest in taking care of them on a mass scale.

We just got an email "All children who reside within District 58’s boundaries have the option to receive a free bag lunch for the duration of our closure. This includes any child, ages 0-18, who resides within District 58 boundaries."

I'm not really sure why it's all children?

Are the kids going to bring their parents W2s with? There is really no fast way to tell.
