It doesn't look like prep. Just struck me as odd. Why wouldn't they email the families this usually pertains to? Say this is our pick up/drop off. If it's not needed or other arrangements need to be made let us know. This seems like it would cause more issues. If 50 people who don't usually need it show up and essentially take lunch from the 50 that do you might not have supply.
Dear District 58 Families,
District 58 has been working hard to ensure we can support families and students throughout this challenging time. One area in which we intend to continue supporting our students is through food service.
All children who reside within District 58’s boundaries have the option to receive a free bag lunch for the duration of our closure. This includes any child, ages 0-18, who resides within District 58 boundaries.
District 58 will provide free lunch pickup on weekdays at its two middle schools, Herrick Middle School and O’Neill Middle School, throughout the duration of our schools’ closure. This includes spring break. Starting Wednesday, March 18, District 58 will begin delivering lunches directly to students’ homes to any interested families. Meals are free to all students and in line with nutrition guidelines set by the USDA.
DIRECTIONS FOR WEEKDAY LUNCH PICKUP
Meals can be picked up at Herrick Middle School or O’Neill Middle School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays throughout the upcoming school closures. This starts tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17 and includes spring break. However, if you need a meal today (Monday, March 16), there will be a meal ready for you today, if you pick it up by 1 p.m. You do not need to sign up in advance to pick up a meal at school.
A staff member must write down the name of any student receiving a lunch due to the need for record-keeping; however no family will be charged for any meals received. To keep all of our families and staff members safe, we are asking that our meal pickups be contact-free. The details for how to pick up meals at each school are listed below:
Herrick - Drive north into the parking lot, past the main office. You will pull up to Door #2, located next to the loading dock. (see map)
O’Neill - Enter the parking lot on the south side of the building, and drive past the building westbound. Pull up to Door #6, the athletic entrance. (see map)
A staff member will walk the meals out to your car, and write down the name of any students receiving meals.
Please remain in your car and wait for someone to bring you the meals.
If you intend to walk to the school to pick up meals, please walk to the designated entrance and wait outside for a staff member to bring you meals.
DIRECTIONS FOR DELIVERY, beginning Wednesday (3/18/20)
We will begin delivering meals to homes on Wednesday. Please sign up here to receive meals for the duration of our school closure. If at any point you would like to stop receiving meals, please email Katie Hannigan at
channigan@dg58.org. Meals will be delivered to your home between 9-11 a.m.
Please remember that as things evolve we may need to update these plans as we all work together to keep families safe and our students fed. Thank you for your cooperation and support!
Sincerely,
Downers Grove Grade School District 58
