-The government, which produces no resources, offered roughly 11,000 people "free" lunch for 3+ weeks to people who don't really need it in a time of no crisis. They should have enough food for people who really really need it. They aren't Oprah and this isn't a big give away. They should be involved in our lives as little as possible whether that's good, bad, or indifferent. This should have been sent to the people eligible in the school system and necessary arrangements made.-

I think around 10% of our district in in free and reduced lunch programs. They are offering food to about 9,900 people that probably don't need it and/or don't qualify for it. If it costs 1.50 That's almost $15,000 a day for no reason, stores aren't shut down. How are they going to estimate? Supply? Prevent waste? Prevent shortage?

Yes it is.

When this is all over, which is not going to be for a while, Trump will be re-elected President.

These meals are cereal, granola bars, juice and a piece of fruit. Outside of the fruit most of it can be stored for weeks or months. They are not going to be throwing out 10k in meals a day.

No. One of my kids isn't even enrolled in district and one will only be for a few more years probably but they can still get free lunch til 18. You cut me the check. Pay for this or the increase in my taxes. It's no big deal, right? Just do it. The government will take care of us. They'll do right.

I don't like this policy but I will do nothing to change it.

So. I now have the option and right to demand my kids get a free lunch even if it could be at the expense of some kid who needs it. So do thousands of other people. Even the 0 year olds.

You don't have the option to demand a free lunch for your kids...but you do have the option to accept a free lunch for them.

Our country has $billions in program money out there. How much goes to corporations that don't "need" it?

This is a pretty ridiculous hill to take a stand on.

I'm against corporations getting kickbacks, unfair tax breaks, using loopholes or whatever too.

I'm not on board with the government wasting money in any way shape or form. Just because you deem something not important enough doesn't mean anybody else has to. It's not their place to be doing this. If you really blew 300k on a boat I could see why you think all this is going to end up being pocket change. When they up the budget next year and I'm paying more in taxes do I just send you and Stairs the difference to split?

MANY families who wouldn't typically need the assistance, suddenly had the rug pulled out from under them...now they do need...or will need very soon.

If you could wave a wand and have it done your way, where this was only provided for those who can prove need, it wouldn't eradicate waste and fraud, and it might carry the unintended consquence of depriving people who are too invested in their social status to partake in such a program.

Proving it seems like the key take away here. Spaulding needs people on their knees before they can collect their free fruit cup.
