The death tolls end up taking a few weeks to match the current cases total.

Let me put it another way.

A 1% mortality rate when you can treat every patient goes up significantly if you can't treat every patient, and you also get the add on cases in a stressed medical system of people who would have otherwise survived heart attacks and strokes and car accidents but didn't because they can't be treated effectively either because people are sitting in tents for days waiting to get in.

BRick if EVERYONE isn't pissing themselves out of fear, our medical system will be fine. Every athlete, celebrity and politician has been checked. Why? Fear. Many other Americans want to be checked for the same reason. They've gone on Twitter, watched the news and they're all afraid of dying. The governor of NY said fear and panic were worse than the virus and he was absolutely right.

Fear doesn't put you in the hospital. This virus has a very high hospitalization rate in other countries. We do have singificantly more capacity per person here but it could happen similarly here.

I don't think this will prove to be true. A pandemic is going to hurt the economy regardless but things will bounce back relatively quickly if this is a short term issue and if it's a long term issue requiring months of quarantining then things were going to be terrible anyways. Most of the major impacts so far have been to travel industries anyways. A global pandemic is going to get a lot of people hoping on planes.

On the other hand, is there the possibility that we want people who have had it, recovered and developed antibodies to it, to circulate and spread the antibodies? When people talk about "carriers" for the flu and other viruses, does the carry part apply only to the bad stuff, or do we spread the good stuff too?

At this point the damage done to the economy is so profound and a such a matter of bipartisan cooperation that we may as well eradicate the disease out of principle or the millions homeless and thousands dead from the imminent depression will be for nothing. Literally doing nothing would have been a better solution. The market would have still dropped, but this is going to dismantle our economy for a decade and cause more deaths than the actual virus.

But the guy who lost everything and throws himself off a bridge will be proclaiming "At least the Coronavirus didn't get me". We can all be thankful for that.
