i think corona virus tanks everything whether or not the government restricts public gatherings or closes resturants.... the media would report the news (it is spreading), most rational folks would stay home or reduce interactions not go out to eat etc. the economy dies a slightly slower death in your scenario. it's too bad our government was unprepared. stringent testing and isolation could have perhaps worked... orange fat man failed

That may have been inevitable but it will almost certainly will be because of the virus and not the closing of many businesses for a short time period. A pandemic with hospitals overrun with critically ill patients isn't exactly going to make a strong economy either. If we can get back to relatively normal life by May 1 this will be a temporary blip on the economy.

There are quality of life issues though. Over a million people a year die in car accidents throughout the world. There's a very easy way to stop all those deaths. Simply outlaw automobiles. It's obvious why we don't do that. It should be just as obvious why some people don't think shutting down the country for months- and it will be months if we really want to achieve the goal- is a reasonable course of action, or that it at least should be given more thoughtful consideration than a spoiled brat governor who is rich enough to weather any financial consequences in high style blowing his top because people were crowding bars on St. Patrick's weekend after he advised them that wasn't prudent.

At this point it seems the only viable solution, given the position our leaders have put us in, is to go with an on/off schedule. As I said in the main thread, there is just no way the numbers will be good enough in a few weeks for them to entirely lift the shutdown. On the other hand, the numbers might be good enough for them to pause for a week or two, and then reimpose. That way they can keep the numbers from exploding, even if they can't get them to zero without maintaining unrealistic draconian measures.

I don't know if shutting everything down was the smartest things to do or not. But it will flatten the curve. It has to logically. Frankly, when Trump, stopped travel from China and the rest of the far east and later Europe, he probably saved this country economically and a large amount of the population. What China did by first denying that they had a problem and then letting their citizens to travel outside of China needs to be recognized as international terrorism. I read somewhere yesterday that Italy has traced the beginning of their pandemic to two Chinese tourists who have been shown to be the carriers of the disease.

Its also bullshit what some in the national media are saying about China being blameless in this and even praising them and their response and actions. Its bullshit. Here they are, copying our patents and products and using virtual slave labor to produce and market their shit thereby undercutting ours and other countries jobs and manufacturing base and now they want to act as a savior to the same countries that they infected? Bullshit. Clearly CNN and other news outlets have been bought and paid for by China, probably a lot of Congressmen and Senators, even president and VPs(see Biden).

When this is over, there should be a reckoning, namely an assessment of what our country needs to produce strategically in order not only to defend itself from military attacks but also other forms of attack namely our grid, our health and safety for our population. When a virus can basically shut down the normal operations of our country, we are as a nation very vulnerable. Think what our reaction should be if this was premeditated by China and they wanted to disable us. Don't think that some operatives in China, North Korea, Iran and other enemies aren't already exploring ways of getting biological agents into our populations and military to attack our people? I do.

I think that it will basically be done by May. There will be some idiots who intentionally violate the restrictions regarding self quaranteening and other mandatory actions but the big thing as far as I am concerned is eliminating the travel from countries who are greatly infected. It is not smart for anyone to panic about this stuff. They have a lot of smart people working on this stuff and we will be okay. When this is over, the US will be better for it in that we have restructured our country and its ability to deal with pandemics and biological attacks on our country.

We also should not be lacking in terms of medical facilities. Experimental drugs could have also been tested. Those are 3 things off top that he could have impacted.

The Virus was known about in January. It had a name and a place of origin. Trump knew about it. He ignored the warnings of his intelligence community (surprise there) The same thing that we are doing know could have been done then.

Now it's being presented as if it's some sort of surprise. No it isn't.
