I straight up asked him if the rumors of Chinese technology companies selling stuff with spying capabilities was true. And he was emphatic in his yes. They are absolutely spying on us through network equipment.

Doesn't matter why Huawei landed on the entity list, Huawei being on the entity list means US companies can't do business with em (absent a waiver). In the case of consumer Android devices, this translates to Huawei pimping Android phones sans any proprietary, licensed from Google things like the all-important Google Play store. Cripples Huawei devices for the average consumer, unless you're going to sideload everything. Although tinfoil hat types might view google's self/government-imposed ban on being installed on Huawei devices a selling-point.
