We'll be good if Walgreens stays with us.

Medical professionals are always going to use "an abundance of caution". They do not care about people's jobs.

Outside of an edge case or two, are they really treating patients outside?

It is going to be interesting to see how long Governors can keep up the idea of only listening to medical professionals. At some point the weight of the economy is going to start to really wear on them. Tough situation and I am thankful I do not have to make such calls. But would say if they try to go much past April 30th for things being shut down it is going to get awful uncomfortable.

And that's what we want them to do. But this is not a situation where "LISTEN TO THE DOCTORS!" can be the end of the conversation.

I wouldn't call New York city an "edge case". It's the most important city in the country when it comes to business. I'm not sure exactly what "open the country for business" means in the context of this virus and what we're dealing with, but it probably makes sense to base overall strategy largely upon what's occurring in the business centers.

I guess my point is that people have a breaking point. And by that I don't mean any grandiose ideas of an armed uprising, nor do I mean that people will crack up and start killing each other.

What I mean is that if I'm a business owner, and you ask/force me to put my business/livelihood at risk, and quite literally my health on the line as I endure untold stresses and adverse physical and mental toll, if you ask/force me to do this for 15 days - 30 days for the better of society I think a lot of us will comply, that's what you saw happen.

After than, when guaranteed business failure is a certainty, why doesn't that guy just open his doors. What are they going to do? Pull his license to operate? Who cares, he's out of business anyway. Fine the business? Who cares he's broke anyway. Put the guy in jail for trying to make a living? You'd have to be a pretty hardened cop/prosecutor to put a guy in jail who is probably a shell of a person and has been wrecked totally by the business shutdown. I mean you've to to think you've got a really good shot at jury nullification for any criminal charge that goes to trial.

Now what if you have 400 business owners that just decide to open their doors on April 25, the consequences be damned? What if you have 4,000?

I guess that's my point in that each day I move slightly more to the opinion that I'm less inclined to adhere to what the government is asking/forcing us to do?

What are the consequences of backing a person into a corner? What are the consequences of backing 300mm people into corners?

And this is from someone who has shown a demonstrable conviction to use almost any medical means necessary to save a human life.

They could always move the date up if the curve suddenly flattens and declines. Like Fauci said, the virus determines our response.

At this point, Fauci seems to think the 30 day thing is going to help a lot. Things likely won't be 'normal' by May 1, but hopefully they will be headed that way.

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/dr-fauci-expl ... 22395.html

This is a pretty good little six minute video of him.

Thanks for posting Frank. I don't usually click on vids or linked articles, and there is so much out there right now with differing messages.

That said, Fauci really does seem like the right guy to have his hand on the tiller during this crisis. Really reassuring to hear him talk in that video.

It would be interesting to compare ICU rates today vs a year ago today, although you'd have to make a small adjustments for deferred surgeries of certain types that have an ICU stay afterward as routine.

There was a facebook post going around here from a RN at a St Louis hospital giving this doom situation of how things were at her hospital. It was shown to be false and the hospital in question had to put out a statement regarding it. Sad that people are putting out fake reports of things.

Same applies to CFMB.

My guess is many of these people were unhappy with their Hospital/management long before this and now are using COVID as a platform.

Illinois Masonic is calm so far. They're carefully rationing equipment without being careless to conserve suppliers. Corona population there is well below 50...

Seems to be the calm before the storm phase if Gov Tubby's predictions are to play out.

Dunno, I turned on the news and one of the local stories was an outbreak of the virus at a semi local hospital (Advocate Trinity), in the healthcare workers. I turned it off and tuned out for the night.

BTW, that's the hospital where Speck murdered nurse trainees in their townhome. SE side.

A cardiologist at Masonic did test positive. All employees have their temperature taken entering and exiting the hospital. Doesn't seem to have spread among staff, yet.

There's too much history to be made between now and November. Corona probably won't even be much of a story. It might be the 18% unemployment and the 11% inflation rate.

Who knows.

18% unemployment will probably be considered a success. I'm thinking 25-35%

I'm just about the only poster who has thought Biden can overcome the LONG odds and win since 2017.Pretty much everyone believes Trump will stomp him but no one wants to take my money. I'm surprised. I've been trying to give money away since December.
