Hopefully when the various 670 shows have Stone Pony , DJ on to wax poetic about the greatness that was Farmio, they’ll play La Marseillaise cuz death is funny .

For real it'd be weird if Bernstein completed his face/heel turn (eye of the beholder big-time on this one) and crapped all over Ed Farmer the way he did Ron Santo.

I mean Ron Santo was an alcoholic diabetic who drank his limbs away.

He was good in the color role with Rooney. He wasn't great on pbp, but that's the Sox fault for putting him in that role when he always should have bee the color analyst.

He was certainly important to Jerry and the organization. I don't care for his broadcasting...but he was certainly loyal to the Sox and a part of the organization. It's sad. RIP Farmio.

Oh, definitely, just terrible, thoroughly unqualified for his job. But in the tradition of Harry and Hawk, having a polished broadcaster would be weird.

At least Hawk was a good play by play guy at one point. You listen to some games from the 90's on YouTube with him and Wimpy, and it was good entertainment, but good in a baseball sense as well.

Hawk was always a homer, but that got carried away as he became older.

RIP Farmio. Agree with Ogie's assessment.

It wasn't a bit. You can read my posts. I wasn't claiming any inside knowledge. There were many posts on various social media platforms claiming he had died.

People on social media platforms have been so full of shit lately. Just like the string of posts from people about an "employee of whatever local restaurant tests positive but management told them to keep it quiet"...they show up about as believable as Golden Jet's "inside source" and then spread faster than this virus by panicked morons.

Maybe you should suck a bag of dicks. Then reconsider your stupidity.

Farmio was hospitalized at least once last year with some long term health issues. He was also missing a kidney, which can't be good if you do get infected with pretty much anything, COVID, the regular flu, a normal seasonal bronchitis, whatever.

I did not know the background of his kidney disease. It killed his mom at 38.

I think it came to light back during the SARS thing...he wouldn't travel to Canada, and it really seemed to push his advocacy for organ donation.

They said on the score his health had been deteriorating the last 6-12 months, and this was obvious to anyone who heard him last year. He had some long absences and sounded weak last season. His transplant was almost 30 years ago. Transplanted organs rarely last beyond 20 years so you can do the math.

He had a great voice. I never really paid enough attention to critique his work. I enjoyed his stylings when I did listen.

He had a unique cadence...Whoever had the Ed Farmer mult here could capture a solid rendering of him calling an at-bat...which is one of the criticisms of his work...he would be mid story about something Earl Weaver did when he was in Baltimore and all of a sudden the pitch was low and outside, 2-1 to Konerko, and back to the Earl Weaver story...

I wonder if he would have been better served calling games on TV where you could watch what was going on and not relying on the narration.

His work as an analyst with John Rooney was far better.

I believe one time I suggested moving Jason to radio and Farmer to TV, where he and Stone could just tell meandering stories about 1970s baseball and not need to describe what's happening. They probably should have pulled the trigger on that after Rooney left, unless he had beef with the Hawkeroo.

No, I'm much more.

I do know how to work around a forum without getting thin skinned. I post things that I think are relevant. I also enjoy poking douchebags.

I dont think you're a douchebag. I actually figured we'd mostly get along if we met up for drinks. We probably have more in common than not. As long as you're not a racist or bigot, we likely share a lot of common ground.

Connor McDoink really getting teary-eyed. "The moment you met Ed Farmer was...the moment...you met Ed Farmer." I'd expect this from Mully, but not him.
