RIP Farmio. I really liked him as a broadcaster, though you could tell his health was deteriorating the past couple years.

He was good in the color role with Rooney. He wasn't great on pbp, but that's the Sox fault for putting him in that role when he always should have bee the color analyst.

This goes out to half of Curious Hair, too, but he was the only damn broadcaster to wish you a happy seder. #respect

Following BigW72, here are some other Farmio expressions:

"(A Sox batter) could do some damage here or tie it with a slam!"
"He's up in the ump's grill!"
"He's from Medicine Hat, which is only twelve miles from Bakersfield . . ."

I was a really big fan. Could tell some great stories from his MLB and minor league days. He and DJ had a great rapport, and you could tell they were close friends.

Connor and Bernsie just did a good job on this in their first segment. I had forgotten for a while I guess about the Al Cowens/Frank White thing.

Anyway, I guess I had the advantage of moving away and not hearing some of the times near the end when maybe he wasn't great. For me though as a lifelong Sox fan Farmer was Sox radio for me and as odd as it may seem Farmer and DJ were just the best.

I loved Ed's dry sense of humor. It more than made up for his "Where was that?" and "What was that?" play by play.

he grew on me over the years.

In the end I liked him. This sucks.

Didnt know he had such a serious-ass health problem. Glad it wasnt Chinese virus.

And I didnt know he was up there at 70. Seemed a lot younger.

Glad I got to hear him tell his story last year about how he negotiated with Reinsdorf to get more money as a young player, and Reinsdorf gave in

RIP

On the bottom of that pile was Farmio after being cowardly attacked by Al Cowens......maybe this is where Ed got his famous get up off the deck call, If you wanted an obscure Big Leaguers California High School playing days info Farmio was your guy. RIP

This sucks. Really liked hearing him doing play-by-play and he seemed like a nice guy.

I never liked him as a broadcaster.

But I heard people tell stories about him all day on the SCORE. And he was a nice guy. Which is more important than being a good broadcaster.

Condolences to his friends and family. Sounded like he had a lot of friends.

I was just about to post this as my earliest Sox and Farmer memory.

I was at that game. I wasn't even double digits in age. I remember seeing Farmer leaving the field with a towel covered in blood held to his face. We had about as good of seats as my dad ever got, along the 1st base line about even with first. The crowd was ready to riot.

I loved Ed Farmer as a player and that is all I have to say about that.

The guy who runs the Chicago Microbreweries FB group had a good Farmer story today. Seems like everyone who met him had a good story about him, except for Al Cowens.

I would frequently catch an inning or two while driving home from my parents' house. I always enjoyed DJ just driving Ed insane. You figure that if they had a camera in the booth, you'd have seen them both cracking up, and not in that fake way that Zaidman laughs at Pat Hughes and his insipid "jokes."

Please don't soil the Ed Farmer thread with any discussions of that nameless "ginger haired genius".
