He said he quit drinking because he knew he'd have to have his wits about him if he was going to have to get a new deal. Um...the events of the last month are the result of 18 months of clear-headed thinking on Mike's part?

He's pathetic. His story changes every time he talks!! I knew you'd like the dye job. He's finished.
Now he would have taken the offer if they had been nice to him.

I actually saw the show. He said he knew they were preparing for the end of the North era.

What? They offered him 800k? He didn't take the offer. If they were preparing for him leaving they wouldn't have offered him anything. That's what they should have done. Not offer him anything. Thank God Pappy turned it down. Pappy saved the Score from making another stupid decision.

That's the best part of this entire thing. Pappy turned down 800k. So all of this bitching, on his part, is so stupid. That was a very fair offer. Pappy is learning how fair it was now that nobody in Chicago wants him.

Yeah, when Pappy said "I would have taken the offer had they been nicer." that was so stupid. What the hell does that mean? 800k is on the table. I think, with that comment, it showed regret on his part. He is really kicking himself for not taking the 800k. He thought there would be other stations after him.

He also said in this interview "I don't want to be one of those guys that is never heard from again. Like my buddies Mancow and Gary Meir."

He's got nothing significant lined up. You don't make that comment if you have something lined up.

He was shocked, yet he knew he was gone 18 months in advance?

He wanted a million and thought they would up their offer. That's why he goes around saying someone should make a million at every station, that "someone" is obviously him.
North is a moron and these interviews just prove it.

Calloway called him on that...is that when he said they're weren't "nice" enough?

Do you guys remember the episode of All in the Family when Archie was afraid of losing his job on the loading dock and he dyed his hair black in order to look younger? That's what I thought of when I saw North in that clip.

North obviously believes that he's some sort of icon in radio. I have liked his shows at times, but he's been basically unlistenable for some time, and if he does go to a show where he's allowed to talk mainly about social/political issues, it'll be a trainwreck.

I have my doubts that North is being offered anything by other stations, and certainly not in the range of the Score's offer. The only station that I can see as a possibility is 560 AM. I can see them being interested in giving him a mid-day or late morning slot after their local morning show.

North is acting like a guy with not alot of money saved and now he is getting a full dose of humble pie and he is nervous, anyone can see that. If the offers were out there, he would have taken one by now.

Norths biggest mistake was thinking he could outwit the big boys at CBS, he was wrong and now its just going down a road were I think even the biggest North haters are going to start to feel bad for the guy because he is going to end up making a fool of himself even more then he has since he wa staken off the air.

It's gonna take a lot for that to happen.

You know why I like this North section? Especially right now? It's kind of like a puzzle. Kind of like a game. I like games. It's fun figuring out North's bullshit and then figuring out what it means.

I like reading what you guys think as well. North reveals a lot with the things he says and the things he doesn't say. He also reveals a lot in his contradictions.

Yeah, it's all bullshit. But so are a lot of things in life. Some people do crossword puzzles. I like doing this Pappy puzzle. What the hell is the difference?

He actually said he was "humbled."

Maybe the most truthful thing I have ever heard him say.

The real question anyone who will hire him must ask, will that income and ratings from months 1 and 2, be enough to support the next 2 or 3 years of decline and anxiety?

One thing I can bet on is that Mike will try as hard as possible to get the word out, on whatever his new gig (if he gets one) will be. Thus that first 2 months he will get attention and once again, no content. Thus the show won't last.

I say by August he is begging the score to take him back.

Quitting drinking was pointless to bring up (its unbelievable to begin with). If he is using these appearances as an "audition" then "I was a drunk, alcoholics go to meetings" is not helping that purpose.

I just don't buy that he has money issues. I think he's fine. I just don't see him turning down 800k if that were the case. Now, he could be that stupid but I don't see it.

Even if he's made a few bad investments he's fine.

It's only him and Bebe. No kids. You gotta figure his house is paid for. Christ, even if he was in trouble he made 1.5 million last year. If he was in troube I'm sure he was safe with his most recent income.

Whether or not he has a lot of money saved up, turning down $800,000 a year is $31,000 every two weeks.

I heard two things. One, they're making plans 18 months ago to get rid of him and feed that story to Feder. One-a, They won't confirm it. (One-b, of course they wouldn't -- what makes him expect they would?!?) Two, they give him an offer which may or may not be what he's actually worth, but he's gotta know that if he accepts it, its the last deal they'll offer him, and furthermore, there'll be enough "out" clauses in there that they can tee him off for another "Chinaman" comment.

Knowing that these guys aren't trustworthy (like "his guys" might be in his imagination,) he knows the next 'x' years at 800k will be miserable, and they'll micromanage/blow up his various on-air sins. Said "blow ups" will tarnish his rep amongst other potential hirers, making him less hirable after that 800k contract is over, and/or the exercise right to get rid of him.

I see his POV; I'm sympathetic to it. The money, truly, is not important. Not at that cost.

Now understand, I'm not a fan of the guy. I thought he was in severe decline on Monsters when he was telling people he knew more about being black than most black people. He certainly jumped the shark afterwards as a solo guy, and this morning thing has been a disaster.

But that doesn't mean I don't understand his POV. I'll even add: Mac has said that it's really station management's fault for not reigning him in, long ago. (Sort of like how Mac's been reigned in with increasingly worse punishment until he "got it.") Well, yeah, I agree with that up to a point. They allow an environment to be set up where whatever his idea of a good show goes, with very little checkpoints. Obviously, he wants that environment and/or protection to continue. He feels he has a RIGHT to expect that environment/protection to continue, because, after all, they provided it to him for the past 16 years. And looking at (1) above, he now knows he can't trust them to provide that, anymore.

So, no matter what, booking from there is probably the best thing for him. Doing something syndicated or web streaming is where he has to go. I look to where he did his friday show, and they do Hub's syndicated Pro Football Weekly and Baum's sportstalk show (among other genres.) Someone small like that would pay a bundle for a Pappy on the hope of his putting them on the map. He doesn't have to do nearly as well as with the Morning Show to do that. Of course, the fact that that wasn't a good show, and had buttloads of technical glitches (like hanging up on callers) didn't make that a trial run.

I could not see the interview but saw the preview on the website.

I think the drunk comment was for people who had doubts about him and the rumor (or truth) that he was always drunk when he came into work. Maybe he heard that other stations were fearful of this and he wanted to squash that rumor.

I agree with most of you, he wishes he took the deal now. That 'if they were nice to me' was such a cop-out.

After reading his drivel on his site, I realize he is getting desperate. He has found out all those "big" offers really aren't there and the old "out of sight, out of mind" is coming. He's going to take the first thing offered and money won't matter because he needs to be in the spotlight. Pathetic.
