Place was a dump. I miss it not at all.

I miss it as a youth who was unaware of dumpiness. I remember vividly going with my dad and my cousin to a scheduled double-header A's game and going to Uno's afterwards. But now, with the wisdom gained by aging, I am pretty sure it was indeed a dump.

Saw my first game in person there. Sox played the Tigers. Chet Lemon hit a homerun for the Tigers. Probably 1986? maybe 1987

Comiskey was only a dump because Reinsdorf let it become a dump. It could have been tweaked and remodeled over the years the same way Wrigley was if they had wanted to. Instead, they threatened to move to St. Petersburg and dropped a stadium meant for DuPage County into a parking lot.

The arrangement of seats was fucked up. You had too many outfield seats and not enough foul pole to foul pole seats. Wrigley was laid out properly, therefore salvageable

Tiger Stadium was the same way and outlived Comiskey by quite a few years. Also seems to have a beloved-ballpark status that Comiskey never got. The various bad pizza magnates who owned the Tigers probably kept the place cleaner.

Only two aspects that I liked. The left field patio area and the walkways to the scoreboard. Oh, and Bill Veeck's ashtray attachment to his leg.

Memories of sporting events usually do not include if the place was a dump.

Smelled like cotton candy and beer.

Other memories: My feet sticking to the flo'.

I loved that place.

Everyone should pitch in and buy that for me so I can run my train around it.

What did you think of the Armour Field proposal? I think there was a lot to like about it, but if I remember correctly, it had some wacky outfield dimensions, something like 280 down the lines and 450 to dead center. I think the architect was trying to do a tribute to the Polo Grounds, but I don't see why a Chicago ballpark would need to pay tribute to one in New York.

First time I ever went was in 87 or 88...Sunday afternoon game against the Blue Jays. They did an autograph signing along the warning track for kids day. Game went into a rain delay around the 6th, and they turned the Cubs game on the scoreboard. The 5000 people or so in attendance boo'd. Sox won on a walk off. Jerry Reuss started the game.

I also remember a couple of games in 90 that stand out. Sat in left field for a game against the Yankees at the beginning of May (maybe...it was cold as fuck that night). The fans out there rode Deion Sanders until he was in the dugout begging to be pulled from the game. I was 11 and thought it was hilarious. That may have also been the night I learned how to use the word fuck like a comma.

Went to a game against the A's. First sellout at Comiskey since opening day 1984...that was also in 1990.

Went to a few other games that last season...it was a dump, but, goddammit, it was our dump.

I loved that old place. Still do. McCuddy's before the game. No ticket? go the the bar just across from entrance and get a face value box seat ticket just before the game if they got any left behind the bar.

Upper deck was great. Day game nobody there upper deck. Close to the field unlike all new new stadiums.

Picnic area beneath the stands was Be Best community seating. The Latinx section. And they always would make room on the end of the picnic table for a lone gringo.

They coulda fixed the place up and kept going even better like Fenway and Wrigley. But they woulda had to use their own money and tax payers love paying for this 'new' stadium shit. They must love it as they keep doing it.

I agree the upper deck between the bases were fantastic seats. It's just logistically. for a modern day setting, there just isn't enough seats between the bases. It's fine for Fenway, they have the entire New England market for themselves. But if Fenway was anywhere else, it'd be gone long ago.

I have seen more games at old Comiskey than any other stadium. We usually went for Tigers/Sox double headers, since Grandpa was a huge Tigers fan, and Mom a Sox fan. That's how we accidentally went to Disco Demolition. Sat behind the first base dugout in the upper deck- Grandpa always wanted to be near first, since most of the action was there, he said. That night it was in center field!

I didn't care then that it was in disrepair, it was still the big city and Major League Baseball, the field was beautiful when you first walked up the ramp.

I'm fine with Wrigley, Tiger Stadium had cool quirks, old County Stadium was more about the two-fisted guzzler than baseball. Miller Park is my favorite now, the roof means you are going to see your game no matter what the weather is, I'm fat so I don't like sweating all summer in open stadia. We did see a game at Washington, that field has a cool inter-city vibe, but pretty easy to get in/out.

Yeah, it had goofy dimensions that the MLB would have vetoed, but the overall design was cool--really cool--and took advantage of the skyline. It's cool that they kept the team in the same neighborhood, but since the neighborhood offers little other than the L (and now Metra) and the skyline, you have to take advantage of both.

I like the ballpark now quite a bit, but it could have been better and the expressway and that vydock just kill any expansion opportunities.

Old Comiskey was awesome. It wasn't any more of a dump than Cub Park was--and look, 90% of the city was a dump between 1970 and 1990--and Shoeless Joe and Babe Ruth and left-handed catchers and third basemen played there.

Having said that, there were some awful seats in that house.

Dekalb had season tickets in a box behind first base dugout and did a yearly thing for families in the skybox. I was not a Sox fan but have fond memories of the park. Only been to the new one twice and I will reserve judgement until I go with better tickets one day.
