I doubt he helps them all that much, but its a low-risk signing. He hasnt had a good season since his rookie year. The running game is still going to go as far as Forte and the offensive line will take them.

I was not a fan of signing anyone who took carries away from Forte. Thinking about it a little more, it is better for young players to have competition. You learn about them during the struggle. We learned plenty about Benson.

The Bears' running back position is paper thin as it is, although the signing of Kevin Jones appears to be an upgrade for what it's worth. If Jones & rookie Matt Forte get injured, this offense will be hard pressed to run the ball. I wish the Bears were more proactive at a position that has lacked depth and quality even before Cedric Benson's 2 DUI arrests in a 5 week period and they never should've traded Thomas Jones.

But, but...Lovie said they weren't interested in bringing in more running backs? If he says it isn't true then...then, .... he wouldn't lie! He just wouldn't! Poop mouth!

Kevin Jones is not exactly a guy I would describe as someone who can "carry the load" for a team.

I find it odd that it is a one year deal. What does that say about the Bears' plans? Doesn't Forte need a vet to help him out for a couple years? I agree they needed to get some more help at RB, since Wolf is a midget and Peterson is somewhat iffy, but this move seems like a bandaid on a stab wound.

I think it says they want to see if the guy can stay healthy for a full year.

That too. I predict Kevin Jones will be the starting running back for the Bears when the season starts. If he stays healthy I see him having a good season.

1100 yards rushing
70 receptions
600 yards receiving
12 total touchdowns.
2 games where his ass cheeks are out

You want to put a wager on that. I think he will come nowhere near any of those numbers.

I would be thrilled if he split time 60-40 with Forte (in favor of Forte) and had half that production.

It's nice to have 4 backs who can catch the ball well. Neither Forte nor Jones is typecast as a runner or catcher.

He'll still be running behind the Bears' O-line, right?

I like the deal but would have liked a 2 year deal better. He was the best available RB and wants to be here. It's good to take the chance on him. Although it is a little scary picking up somebody the Lions cut.

Are they going to cut somebody? Who?

If I were Garrett Wolfe, I wouldn't make any large purchases in the coming weeks.

I don't understand all the dislike for this guy, and the move in general. Yeah, he ran his mouth a bit in Motown, so what, he found himself in a shit situation. He also has had some real bad luck with injuries, even then though, his numbers over the four years are not that bad considering.

The kid is 25. He can catch, he can run, he is the Bears best option, and possibly best player on offense by default (fuck sake). Maybe we get lucky, he stays healthy, and puts up the numbers he should have always been putting up.

If you look at his numbers last year, he was over 100yds on 23 carries against the Bears and Dallas. He put up 71 on Denver with just 17 carries, 76 on TB with just 15 carries and 93 on GB with just 20 carries.

Ill take him, happily. The only thing that can screw this up is how the Bears manage this, and his history with injuries.

He had 8 touchdowns in only 153 touches last season. He had 33 catches in limited duty last year and 61 catches in 13 games the year before. He had 520 yards receiving in 13 games in 2006. He rushed for 1100 yards in 2004 (the year before Martz got there) and had a 4.7 ypc. The Bears will run the ball and if he is healthy I believe he can put up numbers like that. I'll make a wager that he will put up similar numbers if he stays healthy.

8 TDs were a career high.

There is already talk that he will be on PUP until week 8.

Even if he is healthy, he will not get enough carries to hit any of the numbers you posted unless forte is hurt.

the running game is the least of the Bears' offensive concerns, even if Jones doesn't play a game...with just Forte, you'd have to grade the RB's higher than the OL, QB or WR's...TE's are our best offensive option, and that's scary bad...

Where did you read this?

I read on chicagosports.com that he would probably start out training camp on PUP, but by the 2nd week would be at full participation.

This is a good signing, even if Kevin Jones is unable to stay healthy and/or is unproductive on the field. It's a 1 year deal. If he is not able to play at a level high enough to either challenge Forte or earn a roster spot, not a big deal. He's been, at best, average so far in his career, and, hopefully the competition that he can bring will make Forte a better player, and, more importantly, make the Bears a better running team.

It's a good signing even if he's bad or injured? Huh?? Have another jug of the Kool-Aid, my friend.

God bless Nas...a true fan of the underdog. Add Kevin Jones to the list (along with Rex Grossman and Larry Hughes) of guys who will defy the odds by reverting back to their short-lived glory days...recent history be damned

haha...zing. Nope, I don't think he will be...but I'm no football expert, I think any running back would suck with such a horrible offensive line...

Yes - its a 1 year deal. They aren't breaking the bank for him, or necessarily even expecting much out of him, given his injury history of late. This is still Forte's job to lose, and Jones, if healthy, can hopefully provide competition/insurance at the position.
