These things are ridiculously big. You would need to eat celery every day for a week to go through a whole thing of it before it gets bendy. I don't know why they don't sell them in bags cut in half. Even stuff for kids like ants on a log -- you have like 27 logs there -- are your kids really going to keep going back for it?

I've done all the cooking in my house for about 12 years. During that time, I have never used the entire bag of celery. It must be sized the way that it is, because it's the only way the all powerful celery industry can make money.

What a fantastically lame thread...yet still it maintains a hint of interestingness.

Celery should never be used in any dish. It’s nothing but nasty, stringy, worthless culinary shit.

It fucking sucks.

Stuffing should NOT have celery in it.

Stuffing by definition is filler. Why the hell would it need more useless filler like celery?

I eat two entire “things” per week. Healthy. Produces great movements. Gotta trim it down to size early, to avoid the flimsiness.

What positive qualities does celery impart to your stuffing?

Celery is part of both the Mirepoix and the Holy Trinity of cooking - essential in Cajun cuisine.

I'm with Reason.
The only times I have to even eat it in the first place would be Thanksgiving stuffing, so even once a year is one time too many.
Celery fucking sucks ass. Celery salt on a Chicago Dog is ok though.

ETA: I should've read the comments before posting. I'm obviously not alone.....

I really don't get the celery hate. Pretty good with peanut butter.

Adds some flavor and texture into a gumbo or stuffing.

Are you guys just eating celery out of the bag?

It's not the main event, like me, it's more like an interesting diversion, like Mr. Reason.

Never got the celery peanut butter thing. Peanut butter is great, but no need to put it on something awful.

Celery, dipped in blue cheese dressing, is a must for buffalo wings.

Plus, it's integral to THANKSGIVING STUFFING.

You fucking heathens

I never thought I’d say this but Reason is 100% correct.

Apparently none of you people ever make your own chicken stock ... but hold back the leaves for the eventual soup itself.

Inexpensive texture addition to tuna and chicken salad. If you don't feel like peeling it, don't cut perpendicular to the stalk, instead make alternating diagonals ... cuts down on strings quite a bit.

And yes it can go into dressing ... a cornmeal dressing w/ sausage and fennel etc.

And just to make Reason's teeth itch ... muddle some sugar, lemon juice, and chopped celery in a cocktail shaker and Michael-J-Fox it for a minute or so. Now fill the shaker with some ice, some gin, and give it another half minute shake (like RFDC in the men's room). Strain it into a rocks glass w/ ice and a lemon twist for a garnish.
