I used to love them - until he sucked the wrong end of a mo-ped tailpipe. I have never heard of a funnier way to get that done, if suicide can in any way be deemed "funny". :?

I always assumed Jim Ellison chose the moped as his suicide mechanism because it symbolized the way he felt about his place in the world. At the early part of his career, he had great ambitions to "make it big" as a rock star, and huge things were, indeed, predicted for his band, Material Issue. As the years passed, though, Material Issue's style of power pop seemed increasingly out-of-touch with a changing musical zeitgeist, and thus the band failed to meet commercial expectations. While the group was a purveyor of beautifully crafted power pop, the early 90's musical landscape was increasingly being reshaped in accordance with an emerging "alternative" aesthetic, making Material Issue's work commercially and culturally irrelevant. Perhaps this is why, then, he chose to commit suicide using the moped--the act itself was both a rebellion against and a final concession to a world in which he felt he no longer had a place. Like the moped in an age of crotch rockets, perhaps Ellison saw his work as an anachronism, a curiosity rather than a meaningful cultural statement.

Oddly enough, I was just listening to Destination Universe yesterday. Unfortunately it's out of print, I used to have it on cassette (!) back in the day and I'd been looking for it for quite awhile but finally found it at Reckless for like $4.

I tend to lean toward liking that one over IPO and the last one

For the second time this week, I woke up with the AC/DC song "Touch too Much" in my head. Downloaded it this time.

You're sure it was your head that Mr. Jones was penetrating?

Rebellion (Lies) by The Arcade Fire, it was the song on my alarm as it went off this morning. Good song to wake up to, except it easily gets stuck in my head.

Fantastic Voyage by Coolio.

I've been recording my old college radio shows onto my hard drive and that was the last song I heard before calling it a day yesterday.

I wish Soundgarden would reunite. "Down On The Upside" is one incredible album.

So the song stuck in my head when I started typing was "Dude I Totally Miss You" by Tenacious D, but now I'm hearing "Burden In My Hand". :drunken:
