He’d be a perfect fit for this team too.

In terms of what’s been available during each of their selections and who/what they’ve actually selected I’m not sure I’ve seen Pace have a worse draft than this. As I’ve said many times over -this guy does want have a plan, and has no idea what he’s doing. He is completely lost when it comes to drafting.

I agree that this is probably the worst draft of the Pace era.

He selected a couple or db’s late in last years draft too.. and signed one from Canada this off season.. then drafted one in the 2nd this year.. only to draft another one..?

Yeah, he’s throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks. That’s how he evaluates talent. ‘Well, I just don’t know who will be good so.. get 10 of them..’

This guy is a moron.

Last offensive lineman draft was two years ago. James Daniels at 2.39. They've gone fourteen picks without going back to the OL since. In that span they've at the same drafted four cornerbacks. FOUR!!!

Doesn’t hurt to grab one this year too. Especially in round 5 where it’s ok to gamble a little on guys who slide.. cutting them if they don’t work out doesn’t mean anything.

Yeah too bad Eason wasn’t there.

I’d have been ok with that but would prefer Fromm.

At least 1 QB selected outside of the 1st round of this draft is going to be really good in the future imo. This was an oddly deep draft for the QB’s

Mooney was an all-state player for Gadsden High School in Alabama, but a late qualifying test score reportedly kept many programs from offering him. Tulane stepped in, and he started eight of 12 games played (24-267-11.1, two TDs) as a true freshman. He started every contest in his sophomore campaign (34-599-17.6, four TDs) and did so again in 2018, earning second-team All-AAC honors and ranking sixth in the FBS with 20.7 yards per catch (48-993, eight TDs). Mooney did not make as many big plays as a senior but still led the team with 48 catches for 713 yards (14.9 per) and five touchdowns.

Overview
Limber and explosive, he has the makings of a mismatch slot with the ability to stretch and attack speed-deficient coverages. It's easy to criticize Mooney for frequency of drops during his time at Tulane, but he took short throws and turned them into touchdowns of 86, 79 and 55 yards in 2018. He's sudden underneath and should fit right in as a slot, but he won't be able to outrun NFL coverage and needs to tighten up the routes. He definitely has a puncher's shot at finding an NFL home, but the slender frame and inability to help on special teams are big challenges to overcome.

Strengths
Capable of lining up inside or outside
Uses sudden stem and release to beat press
Instant cushion muncher against off-man
Will turn a short slant into a long touchdown
Suddenness to separate out of breaks underneath
Explosive speed with ability to work all three levels
Above average locating and tracking deep throws
Instinctive positioning and body adjustments help him bring it in
Trampoline leaper to get up and over for high-point
Almost every touchdown in 2019 was contested

Weaknesses
Built like a stick with thin frame and limbs
Size brings natural concerns over durability
Not enough attention to detail in his routes
In a hurry to get from Point A to Point B
Had troubling dealing with physical route-matchers
Disappointing drops on shorter throws
Struggled making adjustments to throws outside his frame
Has almost no special teams experience in college

Now fifteen picks since your last offensive lineman with four cornerbacks and four wide receivers taken in that span.

A lot is made of the massive investment Pace has made in tight end for little apparent benefit, but man has he blown a ton of money and picks on wide receivers too.

I like it. Averaged 16 yds per catch. Very fast.

Eagles receive 196th (6), 200th (6) and 233rd (7) picks
Bears receive 173rd (Darnell Mooney, WR) and 227th (7) picks

That's a bad deal.

Opportunity was there for the Bears to get some picks and have a fuller draft. Kmet would've been available.

So will Pace draft OL with both the seventh-rounders, two guys they easily could've signed as UDFA's, just to say he did?

Mooney is really good. Watching Tulane at least a handful of times he always looked like the best player on the field. Home run route type of receiver but also pretty good on sweeps

I wouldn’t be surprised if Teddy stepped in and flat out told him he’s not allowed to trade anything away for next year draft wise lol

Yeah I really like that pick and I like the Edge rusher they picked. They are both good football players.

7th round is pretty much drafting guys who had agreements with other teams as an UDFA.

Maybe he will replace Patterson.

I have no problems with the players. I have problems with the trade-ups and the dearth of picks in the third and fourth round...especially since teams were offering to move up.

He will take Taylor Gabriels spot

I’m debating on creating a thread linking all the Pace draft threads in one spot from over the years so we can more easily look at how right or wrong we’ve been. We could update the OP every year and bump it right before the draft for shits.

Unless that thread already exists.

I buy draft guides every year (sometimes multiple guides) and keep track as best I can of which players I liked Vs who was actually selected. I have a really good 1st and 2nd round record but it tapers off after that. It’s also nice when I line up with who they actually take (Tommy Harris, and Roquan Smith are two that stand out).

I’ve been wrong about some good ones too tho.. Urlacher comes to mind for that as I wasn’t high on him when they took him.

Well after the Dolphins drafted all these guys there's really no question the worst offensive line in the NFL is the Bears. They have NFL-worst starters are at least two spots.

This will be the first order of business for the new GM. It will really be a monumental task. But we've got what should be a top ten pick next year so it'll be time to get to work. Pace really fucked this up, yikes.

Hub also said the Bears plan to bring Tyler Bray back, and that they didn't take a Day 2 QB because they didn't think any of the available QBs are a better developmental option than Bray.

Incidentally, Hub claims the Bears got one of the steals of the draft with Jaylon Johnson. Also says his shoulder problems aren't that serious.

Wasn't sure what he meant about Bray because they re-signed him quite a while ago.
