If they are doing this as a precursor to Fromm they probably should've waited until they actually were on the clock, not when there was still twenty picks to go. Other teams after QB's are going to be on alert.

There is minimal risk of picking up the option. If he sucks again you cut him and do not have to pay him. Sure it is guaranteed for injury but how often does a player have an injury that takes over a year to heal?

That is what makes this newsworthy. Of course nobody would guarantee Mitch that kind of money, but the fact that its basically a free year of control the Bears are giving up is interesting. He may be getting dealt.

If this is true it just means thankfully Pace isn't committed to propping (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky up just because he paid so much for him. It's probably too late for Pace though.

I think they are trying to trade him.

I know there's no cap benefit from cutting him, but that he is being correctly identified as a net loss is a step in the right direction. Glad to see you ever so tepidly accepting that point of view. You, Nas, Antarctica and FF will always have those two drives he executed in the Dallas game.

I always wanted him to compete for a job for free next year. That hasn't changed. Maybe he becomes everything we hoped for. Maybe he is bad. Let's just see it.

Even if Mitch starts and has a hell of a year, do you think teams are going to offer him some crazy money deals? Maybe if he leads the Bears to a Super Bowl victory, but any other scenario the Bears could resign him for a reasonable price IMO. Who cares though. It's Nick Foles time.

I think you are spot-on. Mitch would need to do incredible things to repair his reputation around the league.

At this point in time, I hope that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky leaves the Bears and goes to an organization that actually know talent and what it takes to win. He is doomed with this piss ant organization. I think that Foles is a decent quarterback over-all and ha won with a good team. But this guy is far from a stud quarterback and is going to get killed with our offensive line and shitty running game. I would like to see (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky go to the Saints and qb for them. He has a lot of skills that never got utilized with this Bear's team because of the lack of talent in front of him as well as Nagy's stupid play calling.

No matter where (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky ends up, he will never be a starter.

Well, seeing that they again didn't draft a QB, I'm not so sure Mitch is going anywhere.

This is his 4th year. Article was talking about picking up his 5th year option, so QB would be addressed in next years draft.
