you cannot be a fan of the current NBA and think this

At my core I still believe this, but I've learned to suppress it over the past 38 years. It's not important enough to make me stop watching.

I think sports is less fun when opponents don't hate each other. The NBA is the worst at this right now.

Perhaps. But the problem with Detroit was that they didn't respect anyone. The weird chip on their collective shoulder couldn't allow it and made them arrogant asswipes, almost to every man.

We tend to love that when it's a team we support. Jordan wasn't exactly an angel and we celebrate his ruthlessness.

But there's a difference in being goons between the whistles and having no respect for the opponent and game. The old Raiders and Broad St. Bullies of the seventies were goons during the game but they respected their games and oppoments.

I was a huge Piston fan as long as they weren't playing the Bulls. Should have had 4 rings. They are known for the Bad Boy stuff but they could really hoop too. Isiah is one of the best points to ever play the game. Vinnie, Dumars, Ad, then Big Mark were all hoopers too.

As long as they weren't playing the Bulls they were all good with me.

True. But whenever they lost they whined like babies. Except Dumars.

How didn't they respect the game? They played their asses off and used the rules to their advantage. I respect their "fuck you" mentality on the court and their use of physicality to gain a psychological advantage. Even the off the court "Us vs Them" stuff was a game within the game.

None of them would've pulled half the dirty crap they did except in a regulated, televised game. Hell, their whining largely would have gotten laughed at.

Yeah The "hospitality" establishment   And I use that term rather loosely. You're right. Some of everything used to be going on in that spot.

It only takes one surprise or person ready to put in work to change that. I once saw a 5'4" D Queen do just that to a group of guys who thought they were hard.

Quickest hands I ever saw on a woman and a little understanding of just who she was had a couple of blocks on lock after the game.

In my imaginary world I would love to see LeBron face off against the Bad Boys. I wonder if he would cry when they knocked him down.

Bill still doesn't give a fuck.

But Laimbeer remains unapologetic, telling Nichols that Jordan and the Bulls were "whiners."

"They whined and cried for a year and a half about how bad we were for the game, but more importantly, they said we were bad people," Laimbeer said. "We weren't bad people. We were just basketball players winning, and that really stuck with me because they didn't know who we were or what we were about as individuals and our family life.

"But all that whining they did, I didn't want to shake their hand. They were just whiners. They won the series. Give him credit: We got old, they got past us. But OK, move on."

I will give Laimbeer credit he at least is consistent unlike Thomas who flip flops on things.

But with that said, fuck Laimbeer. He was an asshat who was bad for basketball. He got carried to 2 titles by several other guys. He really brought nothing to that team. They had tougher guys. They had better rebounders. They had better defenders. They had better scorers.

Simmons has managed to make an entire career out of being the least interesting person imaginable.

Bill Simmons writes12,000 word articles about how Season Two of The Wire is like the 1988 Eastern Conference Finals.

Dennis Rodman played an exhibition basketball game in North Korea.

Bill Simmons finds one of these scenarios interesting.

They "got past us"? They swept them out of relevancy (they were still a good team, but never a threat to win it) and then tripled their achievement. Mahorn and Edwards (and Rodman) were the bad dudes on that team.

He was the glue and the guy who did the dirty work. Teams don't generally follow a guy who provides nothing.

That narrative is overrated. Mahorn did as much if not more dirty work and was a better leader.

Laimbeer whined everytime he got called for a foul.

The best thing about this documentary is that it has really rekindled my hatred for that Pistons team.

Glad to see that the hatred is still flowing through Jordan, too.

Good old comfortable hate in something that ultimately didn't matter.

Me too. I love the fact that Jordan still hates the Pistons.

Love that Jordan called Thomas an ass hole.

And then I saw on ESPN, Thomas trying to defend himself. He sounded like an idiot in doing so. He made no sense. With that stupid smile of his that he always thinks makes him charming. He had that same smile as a player. Nobody falls for it. He's an ass hole and a con man. He's just a dick.

So much better.

I still remember the tension in the air as the Bulls prepared to take on the Pistons and Lakers in 91.

You could feel the electricity--and the nerves--everywhere.

People were sleepwalking through their workdays waiting for the games. They were on everyone's mind. Everyone was talking about them--friends at school, teachers, the guys at the hot dog stand. Even my Polish grandma, who loved "The Price Is Right" and knew nothing about basketball.

It was magic.

I felt the tension as a kid. I remember being a nervous during those games.

I was so angry in 89 and 90 when they lost to the Pistons.

Beating them in 91 was so awesome. And they swept those bitches.

What's with the rap music theme (yo, yo,yo)? Players are eclectic in their music tastes. Rap music doesn't represent the great city of Chicago.
