I was never into rap in the 90s but I am rediscovering and liking it now with the 80s/90s rap radio stations popping around the country making it the 'new oldies'.

Really digging 2pac's stuff. Wasn't interested back when it was live but now I can see why he is held in such high regard not just as an artist but social change influencer like a 1960s person like Ali, Malcom X, etc...

I know you were just a little kid and have no real first hand knowledge of the Bad Boys, but they absolutely had no respect for the game. There's a difference between playing physical and playing with the intent to injure your opponent. Pistons were out there trying to hurt people, you can't be more disrespectful to the game than that. Also, Pistons took advantage of the refs in a way that disrespected the game and the spirit of competition. They knew the refs couldn't possibly call a foul on every single play so they went out there and fouled on every single play. Blatant disrespect for the game.


They were a fun team to watch early on, but then they got wrapped up in the bad boy persona and they turned into a disgrace. A successful disgrace, but a disgrace nonetheless.

yep, the hatred for Detroit was very real. After they won title 1 me and my buddies went out rioting and brought poster board signs. One of the signs said DETROIT SUCKS. The other fans loved it. every title after that we would go rioting again with signs. Pistons were no longer on our level and we didn't even see them in the playoffs again, but we still brought out a sign that said DETROIT STILL SUCKS and rocked it all the way through title 6. Even in 98 that was still the most popular sign and would lead to impromptu chants of DETROIT SUCKS all over the city.


I should correct one thing though...our most popular sign year one was FUCK BOB COSTAS. The fans loved that one. The media didn't as they ripped on us on Channel 7 news for having that sign. Even Mike North gave us shit the next day for that sign. Fuck that guy and FUCK BOB COSTAS!

He's probably calculating how anti-Jordan he can be before being considered "controversial." Laimbeer is already typecast as controversial. That's gonna limit what you can be considered for as far as TV gigs, coaching gigs, front office jobs, etc. He's fine with that. Thomas probably doesn't want the same tag which is why he's all over the place here. I'm sure deep down he resents the fact that he has to kiss Jordan's ring to get in the club, but that's what he's trying to do nonetheless.

NBA did as well. The Bad Boy thing was actually detrimental for Isiah in the long run. He was one the best point guards in league history but he will never be recognized for it because he will always be remembered mostly for being the leader of the Bad Boys.

Agreed. He sacrificed more than any other player on that team in order to win. Aguirre sacrificed too when he was traded over but not as much as Isiah.

Yeah he was a great great player who will never get his due. He is also hardly ever mentioned in the greatest college players discussion. His run at Indiana was great.

sure there were hard fouls back then, but no one went out and consistently attempted to injure their opponents as a team mantra except one team...the Pistons.

That was 100% unique to the Pistons.

Even in that pic you show it's not a good analogy. That shows a hard foul committed AGAINST Lambier. Pippen is coming down hard on his ARMS and shoulder, he's not intentionally trying to crack him in the face with both elbows like Lambier would do. Also, that is Pip on Lambier...for all we know it was a retaliation for some horrible thing Lambier did earlier in the game...or even a different game. Delivering a hard foul on Lambier isn't evidence of the way the game was played back then, it's evidence of a jerk getting what he deserved.

Going into that Portland series Drexler was regarded by many as the 2nd best player in the league by a number of people associated with the NBA.. He was playing the best basketball of his career and there was a little talk (not much but a little) that he would be able to get up with Jordan . Jordan ended that talk in one half of the Finals. Didn't help that they played the same position.

I actually felt bad for Clyde because he always seemed like a nice guy.
