a few? How many years were you in high school?

I always looked at Cox like Don King.

He sure seemed to have a lot of expensive things for a high school administrator and coach.

my dad was pretty much the last jew at Marshall. He was buddies with George Wilson who should be on the Mt. Rushmore of Public League legends.

I think my dad got the hint cause halfway through high school they moved and he finished up at Sullivan.

I was in Champaign to see the 1993 finals. Pretty incredible to see those guys in action.

To me it would have to be Marcus Liberty. Jaime Brandon is a very close 2nd. Michael Hermon 3rd. 4th Rashard Griffin 5. Imari Sawyer.

People forget how good Liberty was before Lou Henson horribly misused him at Illinois. Wasted his time at a 4 and even a small 5, when he should have been focusing his skills for those years on becoming a swing 2/3.

Nah Leon Smith was all upside. He wasn't particularly skilled in high school. Those guys were killers on the court. Leon Smith was tall with extremely long arms. He had a lot to learn about the game.

I just remember him with the Nuggets and old heads telling me how great he was.

Yeah he was the one most hurt by the small ball thing. He was a 6'8 point forward. If you ask him now he will tell you that he wishes he'd gone to Syracuse.

Doug Collins infamously stated that he was already better than guys on the Bulls by the time he was a Junior in High School.

The guy was a special player coming out of high school.

I was stunned that Brandon and Liberty didn't dominate after hs. I really didn't think that they wouldn't dominate.

Poor coaching in both instances?

As an alum, I thought at the time that his misuse of Liberty bordered on a fireable offense.

Illinois got it's karma handed to the program after the fact, with Jereme Richmond.

Jaime should never have gone to LSU. I was at Grambling then and we would get all of their games being in state. Dale Brown screwed him. He was set up to go to Illinois but he didn't because of the Deon Thomas stuff. He left once it was apparent that they were going on probation

With Liberty I think there were just too many people that played his position on the Illini. As CCFC stated they had him at the 5. Plus back then they had the Prop rule which cost them their Freshman year.

Sitting out hurt both of them tremendously. Jaime got so frustrated he left LSU and then returned after Cox smoothed it over with Dale Brown.

He played great Jr year then tried to turn pro but it wasn't in the cards I guess.

Dale would frequently be on Chet's show during basketball season. I hated that asshole. (Dale, not Chet.)

He gave great interview, but couldn't coach a damn bit.

Nope. Chet would always gas that one upset win which put him in the Final Four up. Think it was over Bobby Knight. Chet would always mention it during one of his patented windups to the interview

The (Rockford) HS of a well known board member beat Cox' King team at the height of their power - with the twin towers.

I believe Sonny's quote after the game was something like "we ain't leaving the city to play games anymore - we ain't getting jobbed".

As a diehard LSU fan since 1987 I can attest to that. Dale Brown is one of the worst game coaches the game has ever seen. The best example of that was the quote from Bobby Knight after his team came back from a big deficit to beat LSU in the 1987 tournament. He said something like, "I was starting to get a little worried, but then I looked down to the other side and remembered who I was coaching against and I knew we were gonna be fine".
