Have you been reading this thread? It's a bash fest. Teaching is a pretty thankless gig. It's cool because no one goes into it for the accolades.

It's just in this particular instance they are being bashed unfairly. The district doesn't want them to pile on the work . That was part of the mandate that we received.

It is a thankless job. Administrations don't really appreciate you, parents hate you and most kids hate you too. MANY years later kids appreciate you.

I sat in a classroom for a day a couple of years ago in a "great" school and knew within the first 15 minutes if I had that job that I would either quit or get fired on my first day. Teachers have to take it now.

Most people that quit usually do so within the first 5 years. Usually from burnout. If they make it past that typically they are fine but those first 5 are critical.

Parents hate dealing with their own kids and they actually love them. Dealing with a cohort of 100+ kids that you don't know and from many backgrounds has to be a struggle even if your heart is in the right place.

Yes, thanks DS. Sometimes you just need to vent.

Sandy works hard. He gave me a lot of his time last fall to help me out in getting a new AC. He didn't have to do that. But he did and I appreciate it.

As with anything there are plenty of teachers who work hard and make sacrifices for their kids. But as with any profession there are a few asshats that make things look bad.

It is part of life.

That was your original point. Teachers aren't heroes in this....they're struggling, big time, to do their job.

Can't do the job the way they've been trained to do it.
Don't have the resources to do it.
And...in the VERY rare cases that they have the resources and access to do their job, they've been forbidden from actually upholding the standards that previously existed from the state...or the imaginary standards that have suddenly been "created" by others.

Jeez, i'm just catching up on this thread...but it's a doozy.

I feel like the line between "OMG Big Gov shut down all of the jobs and the economy!" is being seriously blurred with "But, I'm still working and nobody is thanking me for still working like I used to!". I'm not here every day, so I probably missed something.

That being said...Remote Instruction is not ideal for any involved/concerned party. Nobody was prepared for it to be in place for an extended period of time.
