I am not sure if any of you use, it pretty much is someone going to a store(grocery) and shopping for you and delivering it.

So, I stopped going to the grocery store about a month ago, and started using it. I think I tip decent when food is delivered, but I am wondering if anyone uses it and how much they tip the person?

I tried it, but they marked up the grocery story price (which was already high) by a good 15%, and then charged a delivery fee.

I'm using Walmart and Whole Foods instead. Walmart every 10-14 days for name brand stuff, Whole Foods once a month. Walmart charges $10/month or $98/year, but I can deliver to my father as well. I tip roughly 10% through their apps.

I'm old-fashioned in MANY ways, but I've learned to adjust to the times we're living in. I'm not budging on this. I don't want any stranger picking out food for me and delivering it.

Not true. I have been declared a non-essential business. I'm not even allowed to bang you.

Once this craziness is over, I will go back to shopping for myself. I am just not interested in participating with all the crazy people and long lines.

Lines are long on the weekend. Noticed the weekdays are fine outside of 4pm - 6pm.

I buy my own groceries wearing no gloves and wearing no mask (unless forced to comply upon entry) like the good old days.

I don't think I've waiting for more than 1 person in line, and I'm going either mid Saturday or mid Sunday mornings.

I'm fine with it for name brand stuff. It's not like they can pick a better or worse can of pears. I had been doing Walmart curbside pickup since December because I just didn't want to deal with the patrons and a $3-5 tip to the woman outside was worth it to me. It also cut down on impulse purchases, which paid for most of the tip.

Stuff like meat and produce, that's hopefully temporary for me.

they screwed my dad over at marianos. he ordered 3 bottles of some $35 wine and they gave him a $15 wine as a replacement. he had to go to the store and get it corrected.

a few coworkers said they've generally had no issues with it... this was pre-covid though

$5-10, depending on the amount of groceries.

I'm still trying to navigate all of these delivery/curbside services based on availability and price of items. Amazon Fresh has pretty good deals and a wide array of stuff. I do a lot of picking up curbside at Albertson's or Safeway. Pop the trunk, they load the stuff, they close the trunk. I always ask them for their Venmo account to tip. They're mostly kids.

Walmart has a lot of frozen stuff that you're unable to pick up curbside, for whatever reason. I don't have that problem with Albertson's or Safeway. I can pick up alcohol curbside at Fry's, Walmart, or Bevmo (Binny's), not Albertson's or Safeway.

Instacart is overpriced. I know Safeway uses them to deliver. Costco too?

Used it once and had an overweight, probably diabetic and generally unhealthy looking person shuffle up to the front porch to drop food off. I just couldnt bring myself to do that to someone else again. I can do my own shopping. I think I am healthier and less at risk than most of the delivery people.

Sam's Club has curbside at one of the locations near me, but they refuse and make you come inside. That's after being 3 hours late with the pull. And then they give you attitude. I only went there once.

The other location near me requires you to go in as they don't have a safe curbside pull-up area. They are only 1-2 hours late with the pull, but you still get attitude if you dare ask why. They openly don't want to do it, and blame corporate for making them do it. So they don't get a tip.

Needless to say, I won't be renewing my membership, which I bought on Groupon in the first place for I think $15 net. How they can be so shitty while the Wal-Mart near me can be so well run... shows what a good district manager can do.

Growing up, my parents didn't even believe in having pizza delivered. Even with the bat plague, I can't wrap my head around this. Especially with the bat plague, even!

I’m often told that carryout and delivery are different things by people that don’t have time to carryout because they are waiting for their delivery.

That’s actually one place where Instacart works in your favor. You don’t need to belong since they are the one’s doing the shopping.

For $52 would you shop with no pants?

I just tried it out with Costco earlier today. The shopper/driver was super communicative while he was in the store asking if I wanted to replace items that they didn't have. Some grocery stores are not good about this. Instacart driver came within an hour.

Whole Foods is actually excellent about this, but they have a vastly limited selection of their in-store inventory. It's just the most commonly purchased stuff and none of the stuff that might only be found in one region. Like their ice cream selection, it's basically just the house 365 brand and maybe a couple of others.

The good thing is that the shopper will message you and suggest alternatives and you can send text messages back. I don't get much from there other than meat and beens and if they have frozen vegetables that I like, and sometimes some vanilla ice cream. Sadly my WF has a shitty deli section compared to the one I left behind in Willowbrook

I feel like this could be the start of a whistler thread.

Ever sent a dick pick to an instacart shopper?
