Fantastic movie! It was the fastest 2.5 hour movie ever. There was one thing that stuck in my craw though. I found it a little hard to belive that Two Face would still be able to have a functioning eye and then see through to his skull. I think they should have went more with make up and less with CG on that. I suppose they did that for shock value, but I just wasn't buying it. Anyone know who the villian or villians is supposed to be in the next one?

Well the Joker has different origin stories...the vat of chemicals (bleaching his face, etc.) is the most common but it's not the only one.

was thinking this too. You know she did used to be pretty cute, in "Secretary" she was pretty hot, and I definitely took notice of her in "Donnie Darko". But in "Dark Knight" she looked sunken.

She's not aging well...and that's unfortunate for her. She is a good actress.

Also one of the few movies in a looooong time that applause followed the ending.

I actually think the clapping DURING the movie is retarded, but I know there are those people out there who like to get that involved in the story.

i've clapped at a few movies in my life. sometimes i'd just get caught up with the audience. i was in a packed theatre for "Borat" and they were all cheering at the end, I couldn't help it...I started clapping too.

At the end of "Boyz in the Hood", I was clapping...

I've always wanted to start a slow clap at the end of a movie...

I hope I don't offend any "Batman-Trekkies" out there, but I would only give this installment 3 out of 4 stars.

IMO Nicholson's joker was much more entertaining, and Ledger's version is that of an overacting, over-emoting Hollywood type. I found him believable, yet annoying, and I really appreciated Nicholson's more humorous, yet still evil and crazy Joker.

Tell me "THIS TOWN NEEDS AN ENEMA!" is not a classic!?

The action was overly dark and fast, but that has become commonplace since Spidey 3 and Transformers last year, and I think such trend has no end in sight.

I also do not like when these new directors go making their own storyline and back stories up. And I know that the actual comic books have crossed wires many such times, but to me, I revel in consistency and tie-ins.

I liked Batman Begins (the previous installment) much better, as I feel the back-story of Batman was actually more intriguing than Mr. Brokeback's. The fact that they pushed Batman and Bruce Wayne into the back seat annoyed me a bit.

Definitely worth the coin to go see, if just for the Chicago-watching, but not at all on par with REAL greats like Godfather, Goodfellas, Gump, Pulp, Deliverance, No Country, etc.. However, I guess it was in the top 5 of superhero movies. In a nostalgic way I guess I still prefer the first two Reeve Superman movies over most of these new CGI-specials.

My take on all the "Heath Ledger Hoopla": Remember, Ledger killed HIMSELF like a brooding, self-absorbed idiot. No ROLE killed him, the weak-minded douchebag did it to himself. And he didn't even have a couple of hookers over partying hard with him like Farley did.

Frankly, I was very much entertained by Ledger's take on the Joker... mainly because it was more true to they way the character was originally meant to be portrayed. Nicholson's version was more of a cartoon-based concept, where comedy and goofiness was the foundation.

For what it is worth, the Joker was a ruthless killer who murdered for the fun of it. He was an insane criminal who "joked" about killing his victims and merely took on the Joker persona out of fun. I think this rendition of the character was much more in-line with what the authors originally were thinking when creating the character.

The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.

God this movie sucked. Never has a film that takes itself so seriously had so little to say about so much. Dark Knight traffics in tired platitudes (Joker as a "terrorist" who is motivated by his love of "chaos", the reactionary portrayal of democratic ideals as impractical in the "real" world, etc) and an unnecessarily brooding attitude. And while Ledger's performance was serviceable, his death appears to be more responsible for the critical frenzy surrounding his performance than his acting was. This film amounts to nothing more than the appearance of seriousness functioning as a substitute for thoughtful engagement with the social world, a textbook example of the unadulterated triumph of style over substance.
