TK was the best thing on ESPN radio in the 2000s. Someone who didn’t take sports seriously, hardly ever interviewed athletes because he knew they were boring as shit, would spend whole segments talking about 24, and hung up on any caller who asked how he was doing.

The bigger the shitshow in the booth, the more likely people will talk about it, days+ after the game. Think about it!

They need to get these guys liquored up and perhaps introduce a racial element to it. "Hey Boog, after that shot of Crown tell us how you feel about being stuck down on here on the field while Tess and Wit patronize you from a box in the sky"...see how it goes.

Witten will get there. He's already started warming up

I think Witten could be good but why did they think they could literally pluck him off the football field and have him doing national games well? Being an announcer isn't some mindless drone activity like working at McDonalds or being a lawyer. I don't see how you could expect much of anyone to succeed at it.

Was it literally because Tony Romo was pretty much a natural at it?

Kornheiser has been a superstar in DC radio for years, but The Sports Talk Show That's Too Good To Talk Sports is the kind of shtick that doesn't export to other major markets very well: in our case, Steve Dahl and Bruce Wolf already did it, Boers and Bernstein already did it. Come to think of it, Steve Czaban was kind of like that, too, and I think he was based there as well, so maybe it's just a DC thing to be above doing your job.

Once he was done with that he seemed to spend a good portion of his show talking about Dancing with the Stars.

And that's Roe Conn's bit!

It's not just Romo but the general bias towards ex-Cowboy players as analysts. Witten might not have gotten paid as much without Romo but he almost certainly would have still gotten a national job if he wanted it. As it is, there was literally a bidding war between ESPN and Fox to get him.

Dan Le Batard is doing that show these days. Except he has Stugotz who is an intelligent parody of a Mike North meatball as his sidekick. Stugotz is far sharper than say Bernstein, but he has learned to be the meatball hustler.

AM1000 had started running the Dan LeBatard show instead of Freddie Coleman and Ian Fitzsimmons for a couple of months and now they are back to Freddie and Fitz. I didn't necessarily dislike the LeBatard show but they didn't do much to make me want to listen and, as you said, they didn't really talk about sports. If I were younger maybe I'd be more interested in listening to them just BS about nothing in particular. I heard part of one segment a few weeks ago where one of their producers was describing items from the Walmart website and they had to guess how much it cost (or whether the price was higher or lower than some amount). WTF?

Just that it'll be someone they're already paying. Trey Wingo?

terrible move.

Booger had to go, but why Tessitore? He was a solid voice, didnt blabble too much, kinda like Al Michaels.

And had a nice soothing voice to listen to on a worknight that just made u feel relaxed.

But nope. We got rid of the black guy, so we have to get rid of the white guy so it doesnt look like a racial thing.

I'm glad someone like him.
I believe he was on mid-days, so I didn't hear much. When I did it was incredibly boring and irrelevant...PTFB.

I mean, who doesn't want to hear an hour of sports radio listening to TK ramble about the University of Virginia.
