Pippen has looked just as bad, if not worse than Krause through 8 episodes.

There was a brief clip in there of Scottie throwing a chair? What was that about?

Being good or tested in college is different from the NBA. Jordan's approach only works when you are winning though.

Kerr’s college jump shots sure look the same as his pro

Both of those guys had major leg injuries that prevented them from being the kind of pros they could have been.

Late round ncaa tournament games are every bit as mentally pressure packed as an nba playoff game, maybe even more so because of the finality. Physically it’s a step up

Michael Jordan may be the greatest basketball player in history, but he certainly doesn't have the prettiest fingers in history.

The six-time NBA Champion and five-time NBA MVP has a pretty funky looking right pointer finger.

The gruesome appearance of MJ's finger can be traced back to a mishap with a cigar cutter during the 1999 lockout.

Jordan severed the tendon and needed to undergo surgery, but the function of that finger was never the same.

Perhaps that's why Jordan's two seasons with the Washington Wizards, which occurred after this injury, were some of the worst shooting seasons of his career.

Jordan has said that the inability to bend the finger still impacts his golf game.

https://www.stack.com/a/gnarly-sports-fingers?slide=7

Wonder how fucked-up you have to be to mistake your finger for a cigar.

I am an occasional-to-frequent cigar smoker, yet I couldn't fathom making that type of mishap.

It is interesting how the only way Jordan respected most guys on his team was for them to stand up to him.

According to Sam Smith it's one of the reasons Jordan quit that second time. Wrote this in 2004 but some of it has been touched on in the documentary.
Quote:
He couldn't stand playing with Scottie Pippen anymore. He was furious at Pippen for again missing a final game of the playoffs, as with the migrane episode of 1990. He was sick of all the injuries, still upset Pippen elected to have surgery just as training camp was to begin and wouldn't rejoin the team until midseason, sticking Jordan with Dennis Rodman. He was sick of Luc Longley and all the dropped passes.

That final couple of minutes of Episode 7, where Jordan "justifies" his behavior and then calls for a "break" is amazing. Strength, determination, focus, exhaustion, and vulnerability all at once. His feelings are still raw two decades later.

I sort of remember someone asking Phil the question immediately after the game but it hasn't been asked since as I recall.

Great question and I really really think Pippen was going to sit the rest of it out. Cartwright gained a ton of respect from people after that game too. He knew how important it was for them to shed the Jordannaires label and that's why he was so emotional.

That play was indicative of why Pippen was always going to struggle as a lead dog. He struggled as a one on one player and Imo opinion Phil knew that and that is why he called the play for Kukoc.

Episode 7, easily the best so far. Loved that what brought Jordan to tears the most was him trying to explain why he was such an asshole to everyone.

I agree Phil knew and that is what he called it for Toni.

Loved seeing Cartwright in Pippens ear right after that happened and then again in the lockeroom.

I disagree. It was a tie game and pretty much just a catch and shoot situation. Scottie probably wins the MVP that season if it wasn't for Hakeem. He earned the right to take the shot.

He hates the idea of Kukoc so much but he really saved his bacon with that play. So much more bad could have landed in Pippen's lap if they lost that game.

Scottie was hardly a great catch and shoot player.

As Toni correctly pointed out, he had been hitting those clutch shots all year. His height guaranteed that he was going to get a shot off, even against the tallest defenders.

I'll take Phil's opinion of it over a layman's. I would have liked the question posed to Phil if he would have designed the same play under the same circumstances now.

Pippen is a great player. He is not a leader.

The thing that really presents itself is time after time, whenever the team is at its lowest point of morale, it is Cartwright who is the most trusted depended upon voice in the room. How many times have we heard during this doc that it was Cartwright who spoke to the team or Cartwright who set Michael straight? Good man

In basketball it's different. MVP Scottie had stepped up and led the Bulls with Horace Grant as the 2nd best player.

The guy's father was killed as a professor at the american university in beruit. Kerr went to class the next day.

A stadium chanted "where's your father" and he sunk six threes.

but it was Michael Jordan who tested him

As a general rule I agree with Nas on your best player getting the ball in those situations.

But this is clearly a unique situation and Phil had a great handle on things with that team. I would bet that just about every player on that team would have been just as comfortable with Toni getting that shot as Pippen.

Sometimes you just have to trust the coach to call the right play and to know their players.
