This is an odd take, coming from you.

Why? I think your best player should get his number called when the season is on the line.

Nothing in his contract stated he was "owned" anything. It's a team game.

In basketball it's different. MVP Scottie had stepped up and led the Bulls with Horace Grant as the 2nd best player.

Jordan deferred to Pax in 1993. He also gave Kerr a game winning shot too. Nothing was "owed" to Country Bumpkin, outside of a better contract maybe.

The calls were made for Jordan and he deferred. IIRC both games were tied and the Bulls wasn't trailing in either series. Jordan takes both shots if their season is on the line.

You do not bail on your teammates because you do not get your way. But that is how his career went.

I don't disagree. It shouldn't have come to that.

I can't remember Pippen ever hitting a game winning shot at any point of his career.

I wonder if Pippen reacts the same way if the play is designed for any other player?

Anyone who wants to feel sorry for Krause or look at him as anything but the villain in this story needs to view that one minute or so of the show where he introduces Toni. He pointedly said, "in Europe, they want to be like Toni"

Not only is that on outright lie, as evidenced by the Bulls trip to Paris, he is directly taking a shot at Michael. That fucking load set up Toni for failure while also angering his championship court personnel all in pursuit of his personal aggrandizement. Everyone wants to say "poor Jerry" but that guy sucked.

What's the deal with Jordan's eyes?

I would be more inclined to believe that it is a natural occurrence such as that described below. Main reason is, in some of those 90's interviews, you can still see the same discoloration. It does not look at all like jaundice.

Quote:
New York-based ophthalmologist Gary S. Hirshfield, MD, explained to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, that "the most common cause of the whites of the eyes taking on a brownish and sometimes blotchy color in African-Americans is melanin pigment in the surface tissue of the eye, known as the sclera and conjunctiva."

Hirschfield adds that the condition is benign and "can sometimes be confused with a yellowing of the whites of the eyes which may be a sign of liver disease."

I think that was why Phil was more comfortable with Kukoc taking that shot. Kukoc had nailed 3-4 such shots as a rookie and he was a better One on One player than Pippen.

The likelihood of him being able to get a clean look as opposed to Pippen was simply greater.

I thought it was pretty b.s that the documentary didn't cover the bullshit call by Hugh Hollins. Pippen never touched Davis. They go the the finals without that that made up call.

He did and before he Kukoc came over he was prepping Kukoc to be Pippen's replacement. That is why I think Pippen always resented Kukoc. It wasn't Kukoc's fault but it still had an effect on his relationship with Pippen.

Video doesn't change anything. No contact. Hubie Brown is/was always a Knicks homer. My guy Harvey Ketchings had the call right on the radio..."NO CONTACT!".

There was contact but that wasn't a foul in that era, in that situation, especially as it did not affect the shot.

Scottie was definitely the hero of that 94 season. He was a different, more mature player and I thought he was the MVP

They called those sort of fouls then. Just not as often. The problem was that Pippen was late on the closeout That's what created the foul

Admitted by the co-ref:

Quote:
Hollins and fellow referee Darrell Garretson initially defended the call. Months later, though, when Garretson, who had become the NBA's chief of officiating, visited the Bulls during training camp, he admitted the crew had bungled it.

"All I can say is that it was a terrible call," Garretson said, via the Chicago Tribune. He added that those types of calls are "an official's nightmare," the ones "we're paid not to miss."

yes he did. Pay attention, I have specifically reported on it in my Bulls vs Nets thread.

It was a game-winning layup against the Bullets in 1997 playoffs.

So Phil was correct to call on the guy who had hit multiple game winners in 93-94.

https://www.espn.com/nba/playoffs/2009/columns/story?columnist=adande_ja&page=Hollins-090529

Quote:
Technically a player is defined as being in the act of shooting from the time he goes up for the shot until after he has landed back on the ground. Except, as even Davis admits, "That's a call you normally don't get."

Today, with concern about defenders sliding under shooters and causing injuries, it gets called more often. That wasn't the case back then, and certainly not with a playoff outcome riding on it. Steve Kerr had been hit the same way several times that year, his first with the Bulls, and never was sent to the free-throw line.

"I went to the ref every time and they said, 'It doesn't matter, the shot was released," Kerr says. "Back then it was not called. And every time I asked the ref, I got the exact same explanation: Once you release the shot it doesn't matter."

That was an offensive rebound on a Jordan game winning miss. Also after 1994.
