That is kind of a bluff, I guess. If businesses aren't willing to abide by this ridiculous quarantine what's stopping them from also ignoring occupancy restrictions and liquor licenses. You wanna be the politician who got everyone's favourite bar shut down?

Sometimes these guys and their power mad ambitions get the better of them. There is a risk, albeit minimal, that making those types of threat undermines their entire system of revenue they get from things like occupancy certificates and liquor licenses.

I'm not saying mobs with torches and pitchforks are going to storm the Governor's mansion, The Thompson Ctr, or his Florida estate, but the longer this goes on the more and more people are starting waiver on their support for an all encompassing lockdown.

There is no treatment or vaccine imminent. At this point, the lockdown is doing more harm than good. Balancing health- mental and physical- and economics, the smart thing to do is the re-open the state little by little with distancing and other measures where required. As far as bars and restaurants go, the easiest thing to do is allow those with patio seating and beer gardens to open with tables 10' apart.


I like how he touted that he opened up state parks and golf courses. With two people allowed in a boat or the same golf hole. What about a family of four that wants to go fishing?

I know these governors think they can crash their state economies as some sort of fun little power play game to fuck over their constituents, since it seems contempt for the population is a universal sentiment among the political class in any society. But targeted economic terrorism that doesn't serve any public health end is probably a step too far, and trying to wield these certifications and licenses as a weapon against "non-compliance" could very easily backfire.
