So get rid of all security at sporting events?

Security is important. You have to have staff that can remove someone who is causing problems. Youve got to be able to keep people off the field. You might need to break up a grandmother fight if you're at an Eagles game.

Still not 100 percent effective though.

And what possibly could be?

That's the point.

...and scene.

So its the illusion of safety. Im glad we can agree on it. Grabbing some guy who charges the field is a much different thing than stopping a virus thats 0.06 microns. Some security is necessary of course. Wearing a cloth mask that has no prayer of stopping a 0.06 micron object is another. Staying 6 feet apart when a sneeze can travel over 20 feet is different. You like to paint things into a black and white only scenario.
Wearing masks is useless.... you say well then why should we even have security at all!?
Thats a very disingenuous way to discuss the matter. And you know it, but that's how you frame a significant percentage of your arguments on this board. Its what you do. I understand. Kind of ike a trademark.

I was pointing out the flaw in JORRs analogy. That's not disingenuous.

Darko is in mood tonight. Unless you agree with him, any argument you make will be disingenuous.

Me too. Diversity of opinions is good for this place.

Paid a visit to Binny’s Arlington Hts yesterday mid-afternoon. Walked to the entrance and they had 2 people waiting in line for 1-in 1-out. Ok, must be busy since it’s Saturday afternoon. Once I’m allowed in there are literally 20 customers in the 20,000 sq ft store. What a fucking joke. When I leave there is now a line of 15 people waiting to get inside. Nearly the fucking number waiting beside each other than spread out over 20,000 sq ft. This is becoming a mental disease

Trader Joe’s in the same plaza is even more ridiculous with people lining up. Do not support these bullshit stores and their dumbass policies
I get it, and you're not wrong. Its definitely gotten crazy. However, if wearing a mask and waiting outside is what its going to take to get more and more businesses opened up, then I will oblige. I think its stupid, but I would rather wear a mask and have MANY more businesses open than be stuck inside until science says its OK to be in public.

This is a picture of a Georgia Tech football game in 1918. If there was a Sox game tomorrow, and I had to wear a mask to be there I would be one of the first fans in line for a ticket.

But that's an argument for further restrictions and not less. It's not like the answer to metal detectors at sporting events is to do nothing and accept that bombs will kill people there.

It's an argument against safety theater.

So you would remove all security procedures from all sporting events because none are 100 percent effective?

For at least half of my life there were no "security procedures" at baseball games other than an Andy Frain looking at my ticket, maybe.

I understand that safety is a much higher value for you- and I believe for most people around your age- than it is for me. Obviously your opinion is holding sway in our society.

There wasn't any security to speak of in airports until the 70's. Stuff happens and we adapt, even if it causes a bit of inconvenience.

My guess is Binnys is overreacting.

Of course they're overreacting. In addition to the "we're here for you during challenging times" commercials, one of the worst things to happen during all of this is how companies are trying to one-up one another in safety precautions. Standing out in the cold for 15 minutes is not going to help me not contract the virus. All these companies are doing is making it a pain in the ass to shop in their stores.
Assuming you know what you want ahead of time just shop on line. They let you know when it's ready...just pull up & they load it in your car. No lines, no problems.

Stopping off at the Jewel liquor aisle has become a little too regular for me since the lock down started. I can't imagine how alcoholics are dealing with this.

By getting into a circular discussion about complaining about store lines and rules?!?
