I watched one last night in Excalibur from 1981, based on the legend of King Arthur. I saw parts of it years ago, but did not remember much about it. It has an excellent cast with the likes of Patrick Stewart, Liam Neeson and a young and beautiful Helen Mirren (the Queen actress) as Morgan Le Fey. The actor who steals the show, though, is the Scot, Nicol Williamson as Merlin. During his prime, he was considered by some as the best actor after Brando. I always liked the King Arthur story, having read Le Morte d'Arthur by Mallory, and this film does it justice by delivering an intriguing plot with superb cinematography (won the Oscar for it) and music. It gets about a 7.4 on IMDB, but should have a higher rating.

I prefer real cinema. Like Citizen Kane and this other film The Godfather. Perhaps you've heard of them?

Excalibur is a no-go for me. Patrick Stewart likes the cock a little too much.

I recently watched Papillon. Haven't seen it since I was a kid. Brilliant.

Also, Uncle Leo is a prison guard.

I think the John Hughes movies of my youth all hold up pretty well.

I watched some of American Pie last night and it is still funny. I think teen angst, while it may look different from generation to generation, is still the same at its core.

The Bounty with Anthony Hopkins, Mel Gibson and Daniel Day Lewis, Laurence Olivier and Edward Fox is another excellent film. Watched half last night and was amazed by the quality of acting, mostly by Anthony Hopkins. Hopkins gets my vote for the world's greatest actor. No one can hold a candle to him, not even Daniel Day Lewis.

The other is, of course, the Name of the Rose with Sean Connery. It's his best film, which is nothing short of masterpiece. Superb casting with F. Murray Abraham as the villian, Bernardo Gui, Michael Lonsdale as the Abbot and Ron Perlman as Salvatore. The score was by James Horner.

What a shame Horner was lost to a plane crash. 3rd greatest composer of the 20th century after John Williams and Aaron Copeland.

I think of something like "Pee Wee's Big Adventure." There's almost no cues that set that movie in any time frame more specific than post 1950's America.

Yeah. That was a very good movie. And Liam Neison was in another very good movie playing Rob Roy. I really like him as an actor. The scene where he grabs the bad guy's sword by the blade was awesome. I don't remember the actor's name, but he really played a great role in this movie also.

But Phoenix is a very good actor. He played a great Johnny Cash, for example.

Tim Roth. Great villain in that.

That is true! But the rest of that the whole Hollywood studio montage is all generic Tarzan movies and stuff. Also, I find myself surprised, and not surprised, that the actress who played Dottie is still kind of hot.

The Talented Mr. Ripley. The acting level in the movie is unreal and the scenery is beautiful.

Observe and Report. Seth Rogan’s most underrated movie.

Great call.

When you watch the Rock knowing that the screenwriters wrote Sean Connery’s character as an imprisoned James Bond it raises the viewing experience to a whole other level.

That is a cool twist. Never heard that before a few years ago.

Here's my problem with The Rock and I can't get it out of my mind even though I love the movie.

They get Connery to help them break into the prison because he was able to break out. At one point, he has to roll through a tunnel of fire to get to the other side and let the team in through the door. He knows the timing of the fire bursts.

He broke OUT of the prison. He would have just walked out the door.
