They worked out a sign and trade deal so Pippen could get more money. Instead of 4 years and $45M, Scottie got 5 years and $67M. They didnt need to do that. Pippen's contract was still tradeable the following season. He was traded from Houston to Portland.

Agreed. I thought it was also cool to see how Larry fucking Bird--one of the toughest, most hard nosed players in NBA history--could both pay respect and be pissed about losing to Jordan at the same time. In some respects, Bird and Jordan are the same guy even though they come from completely different backgrounds. It was great to see how they interacted when they weren't performing for the cameras.

Cutting and zooming to Bird's quite perturbed face whilst the rest of the Pacers ran around celebrating like assholes when there was .7 seconds left on the clock and Jordan's ball was masterful cinematography/editing.

My favorite part of the entire thing though was the amount of swearing they allowed. It was great hearing all these legendary figures telling each other to fuck off, etc.

Yeah. I think he wanted to continue to play, but did not have the right situation. As for winning in 1999, it was an ideal situation for the team. They got half the season off, and the conference was won by the 8th seed. The Bulls have a great chance to win the East under those circumstances. And in the finals who knows?

It's also interesting to think about some of the almost trades. Pippen for Kemp and Jalen Rose. Pippen for McGrady and Ron Mercer. Makes you wonder if they would have won more in the long run if one of those went through.

Krause identified some great talent in the would be drafts. It's too bad is actual drafts were completely awful. He just could have renounced his draft rights from about 1991 on for all the impact those players made.
